ABC has renewed their Rookie Blue TV series for a third season. Starring Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan, Enuka Okuma, Travis Milne, Ben Bass and Eric Johnson, Rookie Blue has ranked first in the 18-49 demographic for its three airings so far this season. The June 23rd season premiere reportedly gave ABC its best numbers with regular programming in the timeslot since 2008.
The TV series airs on Global Television in Canada and internationally on Universal Networks International’s pay-TV channels.
Production on season three of Rookie Blue is scheduled to get underway later this summer. No word on when the episodes will air on ABC but next summer is expected.
ABC ANNOUNCES EARLY RENEWAL OF POPULAR SUMMER DRAMA SERIES, “ROOKIE BLUE”
ABC and Global have jointly announced the renewal of the summer’s popular drama series, “Rookie Blue,” for a third season. Season Three is currently in development and will move into production in Toronto later this summer.
For ABC, the series ranks No. 1 in Thursday’s 10 o’clock hour in Adults 18-49 this summer, finishing No. 1 in its time slot on each of its three original telecasts. Moving to the 10 o’clock hour in its sophomore season, “Rookie Blue” is producing year-to-year gains for ABC, improving by 8% in Total Viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49 from the Net’s Summer ’10 averages in the hour. In fact, with viewers and young adults, “Rookie Blue’s” sophomore season premiere (on June 23) posted ABC’s best summer numbers in the hour with regular programming since August 2008 (August 7).
“Rookie Blue” was developed by Thump Inc. and produced in partnership with leading indie studio and distributor Entertainment One. The series is executive-produced by award-winning Tassie Cameron (“Flashpoint”), Ilana Frank (“The Eleventh Hour,” “Would Be Kings”), Noreen Halpern (“Hung,” “Call Me Fitz”), John Morayniss (“The Firm,” “Haven”) and David Wellington (“The Eleventh Hour,” “Would Be Kings”).
“Rookie Blue” follows five young and ambitious rookie cops who navigate the emotional trials and tribulations of their professional and personal lives. Last summer these rookies hit the streets for the first time with their training officers and learned how to walk the thin blue line. Now the training wheels are off – more experienced, they’re ready to kick some serious butt. But these rookies are just beginning to realize there are no shortcuts to becoming good at this job. And when you’re a rookie officer, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Shot entirely on location in Toronto, “Rookie Blue” stars Missy Peregrym as Andy McNally, Gregory Smith as Dov Epstein, Charlotte Sullivan as Gail Peck, Enuka Okuma as Traci Nash, Travis Milne as Chris Diaz, Ben Bass as Sam Swarek and Eric Johnson as Detective Luke Callaghan. Also starring in the series is Melanie Nicholls-King as Noelle Williams, Matt Gordon as Oliver Shaw, Noam Jenkins as Detective Jerry Barber and Lyric Bent as Frank Best.
“Rookie Blue” airs Thursdays at 10:00 p.m., ET on ABC. In Thursday’s July 14 episode, “Heart & Sparks,” as the 15th Division tries to recover from the attack on Detective Callagan, a series of arsons culminates in the torching of a laundromat. The list of suspects grows, as Chris and Gail take to the streets and encounter a man from Chris’ past, while Traci interrogates a young firebug found at the arson scene. Meanwhile, Andy’s effort to stop the grieving widow from entering the burnt-out laundromat results in the two women being trapped in the unstable building, and what seems like a straightforward case of arson ends up being something much bigger.
“Rookie Blue” is available on ABC.com the day after airing on the network for users to watch online. For more information on “Rookie Blue,” please visit ABC.com.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Rookie Blue has been renewed? Do you like the show or would you prefer that it be cancelled instead?

[…] may recall that ABC renewed the Canadian cop drama for a third season back in mid-July, just three weeks into the summer season. At that point, Rookie Blue was doing […]
Love the show. Really do. So So glad this isn’t getting cancelled. COMBAT HOSPITAL better survive!!!!
What a great show. I love the characters and how they interact with each other. I was so glad to see the writers finally put Sam and Andy together. I was worried that it would be drawn on and on like so many other shows that we finally get tired of!! Hopefully they will stay together, working through their lives and careers. Sorry Luke!!
Don’t drop it, the episodes get better and better
Rookie Blue is our favorite t.v. show and we are terribly disappointed it will not be aried for the winter season.
i love the show..i am a very busy person…but i always watch and it is my favorite show of all…..i want more with sam and andy..oh yeah! thanks for the renewal.
Awesome show!
This show appeals to the romantics in the world. We don’t know who we really want to get together so we return each week. The criminal stories have had their own flair. With so many decent cop shows this one was just different enough to stand out. Glad it’s coming back.
Best new show around. I would love to see more of Ben Bass
Rookie Blue is great for what it is, especially compared to ABC’s other shows. I was getting a bit nervous about a renewal because they did zero advertizing for the return this summer. Glad to here I have my one and only network TV summer series coming back next year. Thanks for the heads up guys!
yes, it is a great show.
this show sucks big time. Bad acting bad scripts . I can’t believe its going to get a third season!
how about if you dont like it you keep it to yourself because clearly you dont have any taste. the ratings are awesome because its a good show that people actually enjoy. so if you dont fine but keep it to yourself.
Let me start off by saying I love this show and am glad it has been renewed but I have to stick up for griffin. Last time I looked we are in a free country and griffin has as much of a right to VOICE an opinion as we do. We don’t have to agree but that’s his right.
Thank you jojohn for having a grown up attitude to discussion and debate!
I am so sorry, I forgot that only your opinion matters and nobody else may have one if it doesn’t chime with yours! What was I thinking!!!!
I am all for Rookie Blue staying on the air, but it doesn’t have any competition on Thursday nights during the summer, so its ratings don’t really seem to mean that much.
What happened to English?
This is a great series and I’m not too surprised that it will be returning. One the other hand, many good series have had a knife plunged into them.
