The peacock network is dropping their medical drama Saving Hope from the schedule. While the TV series hasn’t been officially cancelled by NBC, the writing is certainly on the wall.
Saving Hope revolves around the staff of a major hospital. The charismatic Chief of Surgery (Michael Shanks) suffers a massive brain hemorrhage on his wedding day and ends up in a coma. This leaves the facility in chaos and his fiance and fellow surgeon (Erica Durance) in a state of shock. It doesn’t help matters that her former boyfriend (Daniel Gillies) — also a brilliant surgeon — has arrived to work at the same facility. Others in the cast include Michelle Nolden, K. C. Collins, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, Ben Ayres, Huse Madhavji, Salvatore Antonio, and Glenda Braganza.
The TV show has been struggling in the ratings from the start and back in July hit a series low of a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with just 2.20 million viewers. Still, it was scripted programming that NBC was licensing from Canada so it wasn’t costing them much.
The plan was to air the final two episodes of the season on successive Saturdays — first on September 1st and 8th, then on the 8th and 15th. Now, according to TV Line, the 12th and 13th installments will be released online instead.
While there’s essentially no chance of Saving Hope returning to NBC, the TV series has already been renewed for a second season by CTV in Canada.
Will US viewers be able to watch the second season? Well, Saving Hope could be released on DVD at some point and there’s also a chance that a cable channel could pick up the show. Ion has acquired the rights to air episodes of fellow Canadian exports The Listener and Flashpoint — two shows that have aired on NBC and CBS respectively.
What do you think? Are you sorry that NBC is dropping Saving Hope? Would buy a DVD set or follow it to a cable channel?
Of course i will follow Saving Hope where ever it goes. I guess it doesnt have enough trashiness, violence, or sluttiness for NBC. I am sorry to see it ditched. At least in Canada I can see it.
Thank goodness for CTV. I will follow Saving Hope where ever it lands. I just love this show. I am definitely buying the Blu rays when they are released.
I would love to see this all put on dvd. I was hoping to see it all and more of it, I also hope that it gets picked up by another network that will give it the chance that it so obviously deserves. It has a good following and good cast too! Why oh why must you cancel all the interesting shows and keep the reality television that degrades all quality programming.
Would absolutely follow it to a cable channel AND buy the DVD. Criminal that NBC is dropping it.
I would *absolutely* watch on cable. Having to buy a DVD is not ideal, since I don’t tend to re-watch things.
The themes, the characters, and the actors make it a no brainer that I would follow the show wherever it went. I plan on purchasing the show on DVD too. It’s a shame NBC is such a rotten network to have done so little to support this show. SAVING HOPE deserved better.
I dont have ION so hopefully anothe network will show it. NBC is the worst. I knew it would drop Saving Hope because it is a great show i love and because it wasnt a reality show. Learned my lesson.
Bummed that NBC isn’t bothering to air the last 2 episodes of Saving Hope. Fingers crossed that it will reappear on cable!
Of course it should go to cable. Is that even a thing anymore? People shunning cable TV? Almost all TV is cable TV and most of it is better than anything below Channel 13 provides.
I don’t even care which network it’s on, Tivo will find it anywhere and record it for me.
I would follow the show! And I think the ratings wouldn’t have been so low if NBC would have backed the show from the beginning and actually promoted it. They will be losing lots of viewers when they let this show go. I won’t be watching anything else on their network. Saving Hope was the one show I switched to NBC for.
I will definitely be following Saving Hope on CTV. What is NBC thinking?
Would definitely follow it or buy it! Very disappointed peacock network!
I will definitely be buying the DVDs and I would love it if anyone would pick it up here
for us US folks!
I would follow Saving Hope anywhere it goes and would buy it on DVD! I love this show so much, and it deserves to be finished in NBC. I hope some other network picks it up. The cast and crew is phenomenal and they deserve to still be on air!
I would absolutely follow it to cable and I will buy it on DVD. I love this show!
