The gang might be getting back together. In an interview, Eugene Levy said the original cast of the popular sketch show SCTV may reunite for a 40th anniversary special, Broadcasting & Cable reports.
SCTV (Second City Television) originally ran from 1976 to 1984.
Based off of Toronto’s Second City sketch comedy troupe, SCTV launched the careers of several well-known comedians and actors. Alongside Levy, the original cast included John Candy, Dave Thomas, Catherine O’Hara, and Harold Ramis.
Regarding the iconic series’ 40th anniversary this year, Levy said:
We’ve been talking about getting together. We’ve been talking about the possibility of getting together to do a show.”
Though there don’t seem to be concrete plans in place, Levy added that the special would air this year:
It would hopefully be this year. If not, it would be celebrating the 41st anniversary.”
Currently, Levy and O’Hara co-star on the Pop original comedy series, Schitt’s Creek. Season two debuts on March 16th.
What do you think? Are you a fan of SCTV? Would you like to see a reunion? Who’s your favorite cast member?
Andrea Martin is my favorite. I love Catherine O’hara too. Eugene Levy is always funny.
Yes.
If they can reboot FULL HOUSE, it would be a crime to NOT revisit SCTV…someone mentioned missing Harold Ramis and John Candy, and I do too, but Ramis was only a member of the show at the very beginning. Of course he and Candy will be missed, but not as much as passing up a chance for new SCTV!
A reunion special is all that they should be doing, not a new series. It would be hard to recapture what made the series great
Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis as Bob Hope and Woody Allen walking together was brilliant!
The best! Loved it for years..way better than Sat Nite live!
Does Lola Heatherton still want to have Sammy Maudlin’s baby?
Yes please. I always watch the old clips.
Us old folks who remember would watch but the idea of no John Candy or Harold Ramis seems like a beautiful dream that cannot be? They were cornerstones of that show and hard to replace with new kids. Good Luck !
SCTV: 40th Anniversary special sounds like a good idea. The revived series of SCTV with new cast members might happen.
The revived series of SCTV with new cast members might happen.
Would such an Idea work, though?
Must air on Thursday night @ 9:00PM
We want the Schmengie Bros. and Count Floyd and Perini Scleroso…LOL.
I’d love to see a reunion !!
How will they do the Schmenge Bros. without John Candy? This should be a clip show like the 20th Anniversary special about Laugh-In.
That would be FANTASTIC!
Yes, please!
It would be great to get everyone – of course, John Candy is a big loss (it could always be a SCTV tribute show to Johnny LaRue). Harold Ramis is gone too ,and Rick Moranis has professed many times that he is retired (turned down a cameo in the new Ghostbusters movie), but Dave, Andrea, Euegene, Joe, Martin would be pretty great. I would be watching!
Oh, don’t you know? Rick said he isn’t actually retired last October… Chances are, he may participate. I hope so because I adore him… I also like Catherine… heck, everyone was solid, and I didn’t even watch reruns in more than 5 years.
I heard Rick retired so he could be a full time dad after his wife died, sadly. Maybe he could get his toque out of mothballs for a reunion show. His kids are old enough.
This would be a show I’d watch. I’ve seen the original shows, funnier than what is on today.
I used to watch it in Texas using a rotary Radio Shack antenna. I loved it!! It won’t be the same without John Candy, but hopefully all the rest of the cast will agree to have a reunion show. Besides the cast mentioned above, I’d love to see Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, Martin Short, and Rick Moranis. Yes, please, have a reunion show!!! Bring back some of the characters these cast members played.
