Is there life left deep within the Ellcrys Tree? The upcoming Paramount Network has cancelled The Shannara Chronicles after two seasons. Reportedly the producer, Sonar Entertainment, is shopping season three of The Shannara Chronicles to other outlets. Shannara and its fans are used to moving. Despite the fact that its first season was the number one scripted series on MTV, parent company Viacom moved it to Spike TV for season two, ahead of that cable channel’s rebranding as Paramount Network, which happens this Thursday.
The Shannara Chronicles stars Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko, Marcus Vanco, Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie, and Desmond Chiam. When season two kicked off on Spike, chaos had overtaken the Four Lands, as a body called The Crimson began to hunt down magic users. For now, the season two finale, episode 2.10, “Blood” will serve as The Shannara Chronicles TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of The Shannara Chronicles TV series? Will another network pick up the third season? Where would you like to see The Shannara Chronicles land?
The series was amazing and a complete shame that the lack of support and musical chairs networks doomed the show. Marketing for the first season showing on multiple networks paid off. So what does the main network (in this case MTV or its parent company in this case) move it to only one network that barely advertised it and if I hadn’t just been channel surfing would never had known the second season had returned. Hoping Netflix or Amazon takes a chance and continues a one in a million fantasy shows.
Would love to see a 3rd season on Netflix. I found it on Netflix for the 1st 2 seasons. Love it. Hopefully Netflix will pick up the 3rd
I was already expecting that. The way the story was being led and this change of network would culminate in this outcome. I particularly disliked the adaptation of the series for the TV. They messed up the whole story to make some of the characters more appealing (Eretria as bisexual, Allanon “more charismatic” and Mareth as Allanon’s daughter, for example). This ended up mischaracterizing the story and “The Shannara Chronicles” lost its “soul and essence.” If anyone wants to buy the third season of the series will have to make a reboot. Otherwise it will not be a good deal… Read more »
It’s not supposed to follow the books Adam. That would be completely lame to watch for those of us who read books. This is made for TV. It’s a film not a book. You want books Adam? Terry has lots of them…LOL. He is one of the most popular and prolific fantasy authors. If this series gets at least one TV watching couch potato to pick up a book and read something…actually use their imagination and intelligence! Hats off! Besides Terry Brooks apparently approves of the series. His input means way more than anyone commenting here. Right??? If your a… Read more »
Robert
I have to say that you hit the nail on the head. I completely agree with what you had to say. Thank you for saying something.
Not only did Robert hit the nail on the head, but given the series was left on the cliff hanger of Wil being alive in a circle of the Forbidden (at least, that’s my theory of where it was), it’s fairly safe to say the show can’t just simply be rebooted for a Third Season (like, skipping ahead 200 years to a Druids of Shannara type storyline). Whoever purchases it will have to pick up with Season Two’s “To Be Continued” ending.
good show on the wrong network. find another network, let that network rerun seasons 1 and 2. make 2 more seasons with no more cliffhangers !!!!!
I would like to see The Shannara Chronicles, land on either Hulu or Netflix. I think it’s a shame that this series is having so many problems, considering that they do have a following!
Netflix please, Hulu is not available in Canada…lol
To jest najlepsza seria jaką oglądałem,prosze kontynujcie 3 sezon.
It is a good series and a great story but Networks are historically stupid! I hope there is a season 3, 4 and 5+. Keep it going.
I was still waiting to find out when season 2 was going to happen. I didn’t even know it was already out. loved season 1 and have been waiting for more.
I enjoyed both seasons but the long hiatus, network change, and lack of Poppy Drayton hurt the show. Hope someone else picks it up.
The show was not the best, but it was nice and had good actors. Im sad to hear this news, hope someone picks up season 3
Well this sucks. Considering that it ended with a cliff hanger! Hopefully it will get picked up by someone else, and be advertised more. I missed the first 3 episodes of season 2 because I forgot it was on.
Netflix has both seasons. Weather there will be a season 3 is anybody’s guess.
Season 1 & 2 are on Netflix. Hope Netflix helps produce Season 3!
Agree!
See Netflix it has the whole thing
You would think this would be the perfect show for Syfy to pickup, but the chances of that happening are probably zero. Maybe Netflix will pick up season 3 since they’re already streaming season 2
I love this show! Please someone pick it up!
What?? Spike, the Shanara Chronicles Rocked!! I went back to watch some of season 1 I missed, now I am hooked! what network maybe TNT, the CW is too full, USA, AMC maybe, FOX please lets try and get a network, I will follow
I enjoyed it as some light entertainment. I hope either Amazon or Netflix picks it up for a 3rd season and beyond. Certainly Terry Brooks, author of the book series — 26 books I think, left a wealth of material which could be adapted.
I only knew about the Shannara Chronicles thru the writer Terry Brooks, perhaps will will be limited to the books, only! However, think of it, we don’t have to put up with the short shortsightedness of networks, we don’t have to pay for the privilege of seeing the shows we like and we can take the books out of the library totally free!!
Not surprised at all, never finished watching season 1 they hosed it so bad. Season 2 was never even thought of after that crappy first season. Stations that want to try to cash in on HBO money / awards for things like Game of Thrones and Westworld need to get their acts together far better.
The ratings from season one to season two were absolutely atrocious. A 0.40 to a 0.09? In one season? How do justify renewing a show like that? You made some great points in your post.
