Minnie Driver’s last comedy series, About A Boy, was beloved by many but had poor ratings so it was cancelled by NBC after two seasons. How will Speechless, her new sitcom for ABC, perform in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.
On Speechless, Maya DiMeo (Minnie Driver) is a no-nonsense mom who will do anything for her loved ones and fights injustices — both real and imagined. The family includes husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie), brainy Ray (Mason Cook), athletic Dylan (Kyla Kennedy), and teenager JJ (Micah Fowler), who has cerebral palsy. Moving to an upscale school district, Maya’s searching for just the right person to give JJ his “voice.” Could the school’s groundskeeper, Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough), be the person to do that?
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Speechless TV series on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
5/12 update: ABC has renewed Speechless for a second season. Details here.
My entire family loves this show. Hope there is a second season
Love this show and the fact that it is so different from usual family sitcoms while being similar. I really like the way the Kevin and JJ work together on the show. With having a nephew with CP it is so refreshing to see that a show isn’t afraid of having characters with differences and challenges . Yes it may be a bit sappy for some but I love the show and hope it gets renewed quickly
I watched the first episode, but was turned off by Minnie Driver’s character. She is ridiculous. To save fifty cents at a fast food place (doesn’t she care for her kids’ health?) she disobeys traffic laws, and endangers lives.
This show is a trailblazer! It’s first season was amazing! It will only get better, so I’m hoping ABC will pick it back up! I’m a disabled actor and this cast & crew inspires me!
I love this show! Very funny & the cast is great!
Renew Speechless!!!
My husband and I enjoy this show. It’s a little silly, but the actors work well together and it brings something new to prime time.
We are in the over 60 age group and have seen the best Sitcoms come and go, but we think this show has a place for younger viewers and should be renewed.
And, my husband loves Minnie Driver.
I. Love the show!!! And hope it stays on Tv
Please renew this show! As a mother of a son with Cerebral Palsy, this is one show we watch together every week and it just touches our hearts!!
I completely agree with you. I have Cerebral Palsy and I love this show. For the first time in my life, even though I’m not in a wheelchair, I can relate to a character for more than just school or age stuff.
I love this show..plsss s3ason 2.. I cannot wait.
Please renew! One of the best shows I have seen in really long time!!! Season 2!!!!
This show is awesome! Love JJ. He is very talented. Please renew for a second season.
Speechless should be renewed love this show and it’s funny
PLEASE — I beseech ye — please renew this family-friendly and brilliantly-written program. When other programs not as clever and heart-warming are even included in the program line-up, that why people get frustrated and search elsewhere. I even watched the rerun last night and laughed out loud again.Love this program; retain and keep your watching audience viable. Need more offerings like Mary Tyler Moore and Andy Griffith.
