The Strain is coming to a close. Today, FX announced the series has been renewed for a fourth and final season, Deadline reports.
From Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, and Chuck Hogan, the supernatural thriller takes place in a New York City that’s been overrun by a vampire apocalypse. The cast includes Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Natalie Brown, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin Durand, Ruta Gedmintas, and Richard Sammel.
Season three of The Strain just premiered at the end of August. So far, the season has earned low-but-steady ratings, receiving an average of .46 in the 18-49 demo and 1.064 million viewers. The fourth and final season of the series is expected to air in summer 2017.
From FX Networks executive Nick Grad:
We sincerely thank Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and their creative team as well as the fantastic cast for three exciting seasons of The Strain. Though we’re sad to see it go, we fully support the way in which they are crafting the fourth season’s dramatic conclusion.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Strain? Are you sad it’s ending?
We want 5 seasons of strain…
Love the show sad,to see it go but at least. Now we can see what happens after the kid dropped the bomb.
I hate to see you cancel. I am so tired of the silly little cutesy comedies that they put out for the younger generation. I like this series because it has something that is a little romance and a lot of intrigue that is for the grown-ups. There’s a lot more left they can do with that show if they would just get with the program
This show started strong but plotwise got really silly. Just be glad they are giving it an ending than just cutting it before giving it closure.
I can’t believe it’s being cancelled. We wait all season for it to start up again. It’s the 1 show that everyone in the family wants to sit down together for.
My husband and I are very sorry to see this series go. It was great and interesting The acting was also very good. It seems like the better a series is, it gets cancelled. The half way okay one are renewed. Why???
I love this show. I am very sad that it is ending. No one makes truly scary shows anymore and this was just as good as the Walking Dead. I grew up watching vampire movies and this one beat any vampire movie ever! So sad that it will end.
The Strain had awesome graphics, Fantastic story line. Coming and going back in time during WWII. Super graphics!! Why why Lord are these great shows being cancelled???? Where are these peoples who suppose to be supporting the show? Oh, they going to parties, going to games and having a real life instead of watching TV. Hmm I guess I should do that too. Lol. Please don’t cancell this show. We star trekies need good monster shows!!! To warp our minds!!!!
All the great well written and with complex story line TV shows always get cancelled. Rome, Defiance, BrainDead, Damien, Deadwood, Tyrant!, Boardwalk Empire, THE COLBERT REPORT, (lol), Dominion, Extant, HANNIBAL!!!, Justify, Reverge, Under the Drone to name a few cancelled shows. It’s really hard to watch a new series thinking that the show will not be picked up again. It’s a waste of time getting into a show but to only see it being cancelled 2nd or the 3rd year. So many show ends by fourth season or don’t make it to the fourth season. GO VIKINGS!!!! SUPPORT IT! ITS… Read more »
hope another network picks it up, already an established hit! loved it!!!
hope to have a 13 episode season 4 final end.! with 2 hour episode finally.!!?? GREAT STORY LINE. FX. MAKE SEASON 4 15 EPISODES.!!
Love this show! Hope they end it appropriately!
I’m sorry to see it end but they can’t survive the ratings drop. I think the problem is the show is following too many storyline to be cohesive. Unlike the books, a tv show doesn’t have the luxury of time to explore so many stories. Hopefully the end will have time to make sense after they discover the Occido Lumen’s meaning.
I thought earlier reports said that “The Strain” was going to have five seasons. What is with the decision to make season four its last season?
Aside from the remaining story, I suppose that Del Toro, Cuse, and Hogan must have also looked at the ratings for “The Strain”‘s current season, and saw that they were at their lowest. The story within the series will look constrained because of the ratings.
I applaud them for knowing when to stop. It’s a good show. I’d rather see a good ending sooner, than a mediocre ending long after it should have ended.
