Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp says NBC has renewed its James Spader series, The Blacklist, for a fourth season. Bokenkamp broke the news during an interview with Troy Heinritz and Aaron Peterson of “The Blacklist Exposed” podcast, hosted on Golden Spiral Media.
Variety reports it has confirmed the renewal, and quotes Bokenkamp’s remarks to the podcast:
“We knew about that a while ago, it’s one of those things that’s hard to keep quiet. But yes, we’re renewed through the fourth season,” Bokenkamp revealed during the interview.
Bokenkamp also tweeted about The Blacklist’s season four renewal:

Currently in its third season, The Blacklist has fallen in the ratings each year. Some of its slide can be attributed to the show’s move from Monday nights to Thursdays, which have long been a problem for the Peacock Network.
As of the November 19th season three mid-season finale, The Blacklist had a season-to-date ratings average of 1.49, in the 18-49 demographic. Thus far in season three, The Blacklist has averaged a total audience of 6.941 million viewers.
The Blacklist‘s ratings are down from season one and season two. Still, this season’s ratings are high enough land the series in the top half of NBC’s scripted shows. As of December 7, 2015, The Blacklist ranked sixth out of NBC’s 13 scripted series, airing in the fall of 2015.
The Blacklist is not the first NBC series to get an early renewal, this television season. NBC renewed freshman hit drama, Blindspot, back in November.
NBC also renewed Chicago Fire for a fifth season, while the drama was only four episodes into season four. Likewise, it renewed its Chicago PD TV show for a fourth season.
Last week, NBC announced a fourth season of Hollywood Game Night. Hosted by Jane Lynch, season four of the celebrity party-game show premieres Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 8:00pm ET/PT.
The Blacklist is set to return with the second half of season three, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Blacklist TV show? Are you surprised it has been renewed, despite its ratings decline? Do you plan to tune in for the second half of season three and for season four?
It would be weird if Liz was still alive if she HAD to be on a ventilator in order to live, but that’s what makes the show so good. I agree with the one comment that James Spader should be up for an Emmy. His delivery of lines, especially the sarcastic ones, are so perfect! And his entourage could not be better. Heard “Tom” was going to be leaving to do a spin off of Blacklist. True? I think any show that keeps you on the edge of your seat, without vulgar language and sex, deserves to stay on the… Read more »
I love the black list ,it’s my favorite show on television.I schedule my schedule.around it so that I don’t miss an episode.please don’t cancel my show.
I love, love, The Blacklist.the story line, the characters. The plot. I love Red and his crew.
If Elizabeth is really dead, you might as well cancel the show. She and Red ARE the show. The others are just space and time killers.
Let’s all be calm. Liz is certainly not dead. Ms. Boone needs maternity leave, and Mr. Solomon and the mystery puppeteer need to believe she’s dead so they’ll leave her alone when she returns. Remember, The Blacklist is NOT about the Blacklist, although that’s what generates a good story each week. But The Blacklist is about Red and Liz.
Meanwhile who’s in charge of lobbying the Emmys? James Spader earns one each and every week, and last night’s performance was the very best example.
This show is the best on TV. I did like it better on Monday night at 10:00. I feel it would not be as interesting without Elizabeth Keen. Can’t believe you killed her off. It felt like a death in my own family.Shoud bring her back!!
Love, love this show! James Spader is terrific and I love his voice! I do not believe Liz is dead just a cover to protect her!!?? Please do not cancel this show or I’ll have to get rid of my TV!
The NBC network made a big mistake moving from Monday to Thursday which put it up against Scandal. Not until Scandal concluded did I switch to the black list. Though it I love James Spader I had to go with Scandal. NBC further screwed up by not providing Hulu with new episodes. NBC management is CRAZY!!
what did red say to elizabeth about children and red said he was referring to her (liz)?
It is the children whom the world almost breaks who grow up to save it
My husband and I love this show. Best show on tv along with lucifer. Killing off Liz was not a good move in our eyes. We like and respect the long acting talent of James Spader. He is at the top of his game in this series! All the actors are top notch! We will watch till it never comes back which will be a sad day!
Love, Love The Blacklist — I’m committed for all future seasons.
Love the show….but im not too happy with Elizabeth gone. Not sure what it would be like without her.
I hope they find Liz has a pulse when they get to the coroner’s office. Please keep Liz! The show won’t be the same without her, and I won’t be watching if she’s gone.
The Blacklist is my favorite show of all times. People who haven’t watched the show don’t know what their missing!!! I love all of the main characters.
Having multiple schedule breaks doesn’t help the ratings. If the major character that was lost tonight is gone for good that would affect my future viewing in the future. It wouldn’t be the first time writers have ruined a good show.
