Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp says NBC has renewed its James Spader series, The Blacklist, for a fourth season. Bokenkamp broke the news during an interview with Troy Heinritz and Aaron Peterson of “The Blacklist Exposed” podcast, hosted on Golden Spiral Media.
Variety reports it has confirmed the renewal, and quotes Bokenkamp’s remarks to the podcast:
“We knew about that a while ago, it’s one of those things that’s hard to keep quiet. But yes, we’re renewed through the fourth season,” Bokenkamp revealed during the interview.
Bokenkamp also tweeted about The Blacklist’s season four renewal:

Currently in its third season, The Blacklist has fallen in the ratings each year. Some of its slide can be attributed to the show’s move from Monday nights to Thursdays, which have long been a problem for the Peacock Network.
As of the November 19th season three mid-season finale, The Blacklist had a season-to-date ratings average of 1.49, in the 18-49 demographic. Thus far in season three, The Blacklist has averaged a total audience of 6.941 million viewers.
The Blacklist‘s ratings are down from season one and season two. Still, this season’s ratings are high enough land the series in the top half of NBC’s scripted shows. As of December 7, 2015, The Blacklist ranked sixth out of NBC’s 13 scripted series, airing in the fall of 2015.
The Blacklist is not the first NBC series to get an early renewal, this television season. NBC renewed freshman hit drama, Blindspot, back in November.
NBC also renewed Chicago Fire for a fifth season, while the drama was only four episodes into season four. Likewise, it renewed its Chicago PD TV show for a fourth season.
Last week, NBC announced a fourth season of Hollywood Game Night. Hosted by Jane Lynch, season four of the celebrity party-game show premieres Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 8:00pm ET/PT.
The Blacklist is set to return with the second half of season three, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Blacklist TV show? Are you surprised it has been renewed, despite its ratings decline? Do you plan to tune in for the second half of season three and for season four?
The Blacklist should be like Grey’s Anatomy and be on for a long time, such a great show. Love it!!!!! I wish I knew how ratings were figured out and by who? So many shows get cancelled that are good and others that are terrible remain on tv I just don’t get it. Please someone explain to me how everyday people can make a difference in the ratings of our favorite shows. BLACKLIST NEEDS TO STAY ON ESPECIALLY NOW WITH LIZ DEATH PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE BLACKLIST FROM US PLEASE.
I am behind but I record the shows. I saw the 3rd last one where Liz dies. The show is mostly about the relationship between Red and Liz, so I figured this was a sting on the audience. I watched the next one last night, expecting this to be a ruse, and so far, it’s not. I Google’d to see if the show is cancelled and then it would make sense that they can kill her off because they can tie up loose ends. They say the show is renewed. Hoping tonight’s recorded show from last week has Liz re-appearing… Read more »
I love this show. It’s smart and makes you pay attention. I do wonder how the death of Elizabeth is going to affect the plot.
I love this show
I love this show I am dissappointed that the character of Liiz has been removed from the show..
This is the one show on tv now that I look forward to watching every week. Please do not take
this show off the air.
I LOVE this show!! Great characters!! I have to admit I was devastated to have Liz die!! It is hard to imagine the show without her!!! But I am very glad the show is being renewed for another season!
I love this show! It’s one of my favorites! I am absolutely crushed over Liz’s death! I am thrilled it is renewed for a 4th season but can not imagine it without Liz.
This is one of the best show’s on TV. If the station would stop switching days and taking the show on and off for specials, etc. weeks at a time, the ratings would be much higher.
TOTALLY AGREE with this comment! It happens to many of the best shows on TV but especially to The Black List
This is the best show on TV. James Spader is fantastic. I can’t believe Liz is dead, or is she? Can’t wait to see the next episode!
I’m addicted to ‘The Blacklist’ – 100%
Love the Blacklist!!! Keep it going!!!
This is one of the few good programs on tv. Who watches game shows or reality tv? Keep this on!!!!!
I love this show. But they’re right it’s on the wrong night up against ABC (TGIT). I watch Blacklist on the weekend because of that. DONT cancel it, PLEASE!
I wish so much they would move back to Monday nights. It is impossible to watch 2 shows at one time. I don’t give up either. Have to catch one on On Demand. I love this show and so do all my friends and family. Elizabeth cannot be dead!! I cried when Reds legs buckled! James Spader is one hell OK an actor!! PLEASE DONT KET THIS GO AWAY!!!
We are totally into The Blacklist; it’s consistently one of the smartest and most involving series out there. James Spader is worth the price of admission alone – endlessly interesting and enigmatic. We stream it on Vudu, so the “ratings” from NBC just tell part of the story. There are lots of us unlisted Blacklisters.
