Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp says NBC has renewed its James Spader series, The Blacklist, for a fourth season. Bokenkamp broke the news during an interview with Troy Heinritz and Aaron Peterson of “The Blacklist Exposed” podcast, hosted on Golden Spiral Media.
Variety reports it has confirmed the renewal, and quotes Bokenkamp’s remarks to the podcast:
“We knew about that a while ago, it’s one of those things that’s hard to keep quiet. But yes, we’re renewed through the fourth season,” Bokenkamp revealed during the interview.
Bokenkamp also tweeted about The Blacklist’s season four renewal:

Currently in its third season, The Blacklist has fallen in the ratings each year. Some of its slide can be attributed to the show’s move from Monday nights to Thursdays, which have long been a problem for the Peacock Network.
As of the November 19th season three mid-season finale, The Blacklist had a season-to-date ratings average of 1.49, in the 18-49 demographic. Thus far in season three, The Blacklist has averaged a total audience of 6.941 million viewers.
The Blacklist‘s ratings are down from season one and season two. Still, this season’s ratings are high enough land the series in the top half of NBC’s scripted shows. As of December 7, 2015, The Blacklist ranked sixth out of NBC’s 13 scripted series, airing in the fall of 2015.
The Blacklist is not the first NBC series to get an early renewal, this television season. NBC renewed freshman hit drama, Blindspot, back in November.
NBC also renewed Chicago Fire for a fifth season, while the drama was only four episodes into season four. Likewise, it renewed its Chicago PD TV show for a fourth season.
Last week, NBC announced a fourth season of Hollywood Game Night. Hosted by Jane Lynch, season four of the celebrity party-game show premieres Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 8:00pm ET/PT.
The Blacklist is set to return with the second half of season three, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Blacklist TV show? Are you surprised it has been renewed, despite its ratings decline? Do you plan to tune in for the second half of season three and for season four?
If it is renewed it will continue to decline. Not because of Thursday nights, but because it has become unnecessarily complicated and hard to follow. Too bad—-it’s a great show.
Liz is still alive somewhere i believe and will show up again.. funny how the clean up lady and the Dr. took her off and no show in the casket…Hmm… fingers crossed
Love, Love Love this show even w/o Liz…sorry Megan Boone, love ya too, but …
Excellent – Blacklist is brilliant!
Blacklist is our absolute favorite show, and we are thrilled to hear the show will continue for another season. It is so well done with many subplots running concurrently and of course, James Spader is one in a million! We have loved everything he has done over the years and we are constantly on the edge of our seats (literally) for every episode of Blacklist. Is Elizabeth really dead?????? hmmmmm….
Still like the show, never miss it.
The Blacklist is my family’s favorite show. We would really hope for it to continue.
One of my must see shows. Never miss an episode — thank you, DVR!
Love this show! Will keep following to any day chosen to be on.
LOVE THE SHOW…….DID ELIZABETH FAKE HER DEATH?
James Spader is the BEST actor on TV. Every show he has ever been part of has been spectacular (ie Boston Legal) – and The Black LIst is no exception. Please renew for several more years!!!
Glad to see Megan Boone go – she was the WORST actress/actor of the entire show. Horrible actress. She never was “in character” – she only tried to “play” the character. The others are really good and Ryan Eggold? OMG – He’s the best!!!
Very good show better than any csi whatever show or criminal minds. Hope to see it for a few more years.
I’m glad The Black List has been renewed for a new season. Some of us believe the viewer decline is a result of some episodes being too confusing to follow. I know we’ll be watching every episode of season four but don’t get carried away with plot twists and too many confusing characters that leave us wondering what we just saw.
I love the Blacklist James Spader is an amazing actor and plays this character incredibly well. He is so convincing in this role. I hope this show stays on for a very long time. I look forward to it every week. About Liz …since she is one of the main characters I’m hoping that somehow they faked her death and that she will return after her maternity leave. She has a very important part in Red’s life and I’m sure all of the fans want to know the true relationship between them. Please keep this show on. It’s one of… Read more »
I just finished watching this evening’s episode of the Blacklist and, as always, I am in awe of James Spader’s immense talent and ability to manipulate his audience into rooting for a man as evil and Machiavellian as Raymond Reddington. I feel guilty every week for cheering him on! The show’s writers deserve huge kudos as well for the creation of such a wonderfully complex and enigmatic character. I agree that Liz will be back. She and Red are the only reason the Blacklist came into being and are the heart and soul of the story. My theory is that… Read more »
