It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
I only found out about this when my wife pointed it out on pay per view. ABCs efforts to promote the show when it was on live TV must have missed me. My initial reaction was luke warm but by the end I was addicted to what I thought was a great show. Lots of future story potential and I would watch future seasons enthusiastically. Netflix?
Abc is the worst for getting you hooked then canceling! Don’t air if your not going to continue. We’ve stopped watching their series because of this
Fans want more of this great entertaining show!!! The ‘drop-off’ in viewing always happens when the network stops and starts a show. Don’t split the season- don’t wait two weeks…. eep it coming with no interruptions. Bring The Crossing backkkkkkkkk!!!!
This was a great show!!! Can’t believe it was cancelled bad decision
Me and my girlfriend loved this show. It was our favorite show since GOT
ABC does this all the time. They have a great show then cancel it. Idiots!!!!
Should have continued the series. Killed just as it was getting more interesting. Guess we’ll never learn why young woman from future was wearing locket with present day young man’s picture in it. Hate it when we’re left in dark like this. Can’t another network pick up series and continue it.
This show was terrific. Steve Zahn was incredible in it, and it had a good story line. Sure, no Game of Thrones but season 1 of GoT wasn’t the best thing ever either – stupid to have cancelled this show; opportunity for amazing storyline over couple of seasons. 4/5.
The Crossing had that “Lost” kind of mysteriousness to it. I believe it could have and would have gotten much, MUCH better.
I definately want more. It is just the beginning of an interesting storyline.
With all of the absolute trash shows on tv, The Crossing was the show I would DVR and watch every moment I had a chance. I just found out that it is being cancelled. Why? So The Bachelorette can have more time slots? Really? Finally, a show a guy in his 40s can enjoy watching! Please make another Season!
Just watched the final episode, it was great. I have enjoyed the series. Now I find out it has been cancelled. A big disappointment.
Just watched the final episode, it was great. One of the few programs on TV worth watching. Now I’ve found out the show has been cancelled. A real disappointment .
I really enjoyed watching The Crossing and was looking forward to watching all new episodes. It’s a real big disappointment that they have cancelled the show. It’s a real sad state of affairs.
I and my husband really liked the show and like this, many of the shows I watch on ABC and other networks, have canceled a lot of my shows. I am contemplating on going strictly Netflix, because there are not enough shows to dvr or to keep my interest anymore!
I loved I enough to watch every episode and was looking forward to season two. too much reality garbage on now, sad 1000 channels and so little to watch . series was not given a chance . what kind of dumb viewers do you poll that good series are cancelled and shows like cupcake wars live on!!!!!
I agree that the show was getting better as it went on. ABC should have had kept for another season. Too many questions left unanswered about the characters and story line..
