It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
I really liked The Crossing. The storyline was interesting and suspenseful. I’m disappointed that it won’t continue. It really discourages me from wanting to watch anything really, especially on ABC . They’re constantly cancelling shows that I like (i.e. Still Star-Crossed; Kevin Probably Saves the World)…always citing poor ratings. So what about the rest of us who do watch?….what are we?…chopped liver? Sheeesh!!
I can’t believe The Crossing was canceled. I recorded it on my DVR and watched it faithfully. This is one of the first continuing drama I have watched in years. Stupid networks, now i know why I stopped watching them.
I have loved this show & seen every episode. Maybe it didn’t get enough publicity?? It certainly didn’t get poor ratings due to quality. I thought it was excellent & a great storyline. PLEASE, someone continue this show.
I am so disappointed The Crossing has been cancelled! Please some other network pick it up!!
Enjoyed show. Why all these reality shows popular? Stupid. Need good dramas like this. Maybe Jeff Bezos will pick this show up also like he did “Expanse” from Syfy.
Good show enjoyed more than any other ABC show. Maybe Amazon will pick up liked they did Expanse from Syfy.
Yes, want to watch & get lost in a tv show, way too many “reality” shows out there
The finale was outstanding and left the future open. Hope FX or some other network picks up. Let ABC loose out!!!!
This is an absolutely fantastic show!! I love it so much and I would really hate for it to be cancelled for good. Please bring it back!!! Networks really need to realize not everyone has cable. In fact most people under 30 have streaming and just internet instead. Please reconsider!!!
Very disappointed to hear The Crossing won’t have a season 2. It was the only new show I watched and loved the storyline and character development. My vote is to bring it back. This show deserved better than a one season tryout.
I am a syfy fan and it is disappointing that every show with a little potential to be interesting instead of just car chasing and murder gets cancelled.
Really shows like this that take time to unwind get canceled and shows like NCIS or other forever repeating storylines that get wrapped up in one episode, they are never dull.
No, I can’t say I’m overly sad about this one ending. It felt like someone was trying to invent a new ‘lost’ but they failed. The story was quite dull, the acting was at best lacklustre and many elements made no real sense at all. Although I’d like to see less reality shows, this one was perhaps more of a was of networks money than even some of those (excepting the Kardashians obviously).
I almost didn’t give The Crossing a chance because I thought it would be like you said, a “Lost” wannabe that failed. But, I disagree with you because it really did not mislead or try to be too clever, as Lost did. It was mysterious, yet straight forward, with the conflicts clearly spelled out and just enough surprise twists to keep it interesting. I liked the pace and loved the characters.
So sad it was cancelled. I was really enjoying this show. Interesting and suspenseful. I would like to see the continuing of what happens with everyone.
I liked the show hope you will change your minds
