It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
I think I’m just going to finally give up on network series programming. No sooner do you start to get interested in a series, they cancel it. Well if the networks think their ratings are bad now, wait until many more like me get fed up. That’s exactly why ratings keep dropping, people are afraid to even start watching a series anymore for fear the rug again will be pulled out from under them.
I TOTALLY agree with you……
This show was awesome and definitely deserves another season at the very least!!! If shows are going to be cancelled after one season then don’t waste our time getting to love them and just rip the carpet from under us…PLEASE bring The Crossing back!!!
Yes ! The show was excellent ! The finale ended with so many possibilities to explore. For example: what happens to Sophie after becoming an Apex, do they ever find the five people who escaped the camp(Rebecca) and does the homeless engineer ever find her wife?
I love the crossing. My favorite show right now. Bummed you’re cancelling it. Leaves me with the same old court or doctor tv show crap
Great show would watch a season 2. But like so many good shows the networks just shut them down after one season. Miserable sods. Timeless-Taken and on it goes.
ABC .. like most networks puts out great sci-fi shows but then axes them after one season leaving a huge void for fans due to the Clif hamger that’s supposed to be a season finale but ends up being a series finale. You would think these networks would learn their lesson due to the firefly Fiasco on fox . Another Network or Netflix needs to pick this show up mainly Netflix or Syfy really good show
For whatever reason, SciFi series don’t perform on the networks. Fringe was one of the few that lasted more than a season or two (five) and was an excellent series in my opinion, but every year I would fear it would get cancelled due to low ratings.
The Crossing would have had a better chance if ABC had promoted it differently. Instead of showing the hokey scenes of people emerging from the water in the ads, they should have shown Reece in her kick ass glory and how she went about trying to rescue her daughter. Choosing to introduce it during the busiest time of the year – spring, when so many are burnt out on school, work, etc… was not the best decision. With only 11 episodes, a summer run would have been better than spring. It’s a great show that deserves another chance and some… Read more »
This show was well constructed and had a storyline with oh so much potential that sadly will now never be realized. Yes, I know, ratings, ratings. What a pity so few got to see this really good show.
I’m really upset they cancelled this show. I hardly ever watch series, especially sci-fi types. I taped the first two just in case because I saw the promos and thought it seemed interesting. I loved it. I would definitely watch season two. If they thought there would not be a second season, they should have had two endings. All they had to do was not let Dr. Sophie live. Have Naomi and others meet up with the people in the camp since she knows the future and where they would be. And a couple other tweaks and I would have… Read more »
Yes i just found this show on Hulu and I love it. Sucks it got cancelled…maybe Hulu can turn it into an original series.
Couldn’t be more disappointed that the show has been cancelled. Was the only show my husband and I watched together. Great cast, great story. BRING IT BACK!!!
My bf and I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The last 2 episodes were so good and we both felt like oh nooo, there’s so much more we need to know. The good shows always get cancelled but yet we have stuff like The Bachelorette that just keeps on going..boo.
The last few episodes have been great. I would definitely watch a season 2.
I would have loved for there to be a season 2! I really enjoyed this series. I love the plot and the actors.
I LOVED THIS SHOW! Kept wondering what happen. I missed the last two episodes and need to see some sort of conclusion. Where? All the stupid shows run forever.
