NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I just hope Jennifer Carpenter can find another vehicle for her acting. I thought this show had some weak points, but I really like her.
i so much enjoyed this show. i looked forward to it every week. i hope another station will pick it up. now i am down to 2 shows that i watch on nbc…bye nbc-you messed up when you dropped this one!!
Love The Enemy Within. Beginning to hate NBC. They keep canceling good shows and keeping pablum.
Too bad the network made a big mistake in cancelling the enemy within. I thought it was a good show. Maybe take a look at some of your other series you have on your network as they should be cancelled too. Hope you rethink this decision
I loved this show, especially compared to a lot of trash shows that are being renewed.

This was definitely my favorite new show of the year. I hate that it was cancelled. Maybe another network can pick it up.
I am so mad and upset this was a fantastic show great plot great actors there is shows that are moral in correct but viewers are in line for them shame on you-NBC for canceling this show look in the mirror and do a hard choice bring back this series
I am very disappointed The Enemy Within is canxelled for season 2. I loved this series! That is awful.

Great show sorry to hear the news. Started off a little slow but it was getting better and better every week.
That was a messed up show. Bad plots, mostly bad acting, too much suspension of disbelief required. Had already stopped watching it. Won’t miss it.
THIS SUCKS. Trash can be left on but a great show like this “of course not”. No wonder people stop watching TV.

My husband & I are really bummed out to find out that the Enemy Within is cancelled, especially with the show’s ratings! Make’s no sense. It was a really good show for TV! We couldn’t wait until Monday night to watch it. Why NBC?! There are so few really good tv shows on. We think it is a huge mistake on NBC’s part, must not care about rating’s.. Jennifer Carpenter’s acting was absolutely riveting! Guess we’ll be watching more Netflix.
This show deserved a second season
