NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Why do they always cancel the good shows. I was looking forward to season 2. Hopefully Netflix will pick it up!
So sorry, NBC chose to cancel, The Enemy Within.” Iwas really looking forward to Season 2. It was a well written, suspenseful, thought provoking production. The acting was excellent.
I think it was a mistake to cancel, in my view.
I thought The Enemy Within is one of the best serious which is ever made( it is for me )… whatever, please try to fix any problem you guys are facing… and get us the next season.
What is wrong with this DUMB network I loved the show and binge watched it !!!
I am so tired of networks cutting a show before it even has a chance. My mom, sister and I loved that show and I was watching and waiting. No wonder people like me are DONE with the big three networks. If I want to watch here or there I will, but mostly I am catching all my beloved cancelled shows on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. I would rather watch YouTube because at least they can keep going without someone chopping them after a few episodes.
It was a fantastic show and should have aired a second season before a decision was made. VERY disappointed!

I binged the whole season and now there is no season 2!! I love this show!! It should not have been cancelled. I really hope another network picks it up!!
This is a great show, whoever cancelled it must not be an individual who enjoys intrigue and intellectual challenges. More mindless boring TV is apparently a suitable replacement for stellar writing and acting. Bring it back!
This was my favorite show, should have been given more tine to click with the viewers. Great casting, great acting and a great story line. Really disappointed!
I love enemy within. The cast are good.
I am not sure anymore exactly who the target audiences are but it seems they trend toward boring because The Enemy Within had potential. At least as much potential as trendy movies like the Jason Bourne series. What is exceptionally sad for fans is that shows like this are not allowed to come to a conclusion before the plug is pulled. Unfortunately by the time feedback is registered the stars have usually moved on.
I thought you had a good one there. Different, intriguing and something I looked forward to seeing, with some even better writing, it could have been great!! With her help exposing those who were hiding in agencies. I loved it!! I would like to see it back!!!!!
