NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I am very disappointed with NBC’s decision to cancel THE ENEMY WITHIN. It was one of my favorite shows on TV! Please run it for another season! BTW, I am a 66 yr old female.

My husband and I just learned The enemy within isn’t coming back this season we are so upset. We seriously were into this show. I really hope they change their minds. We just cannot understand why this wouldn’t return? Some of the new shows out are not even worth their commercial air time. Maybe another network will pick up this show. We have been left hanging….
I absolutely loved The Enemy Within!! I am so disappointed that there will be no season two I feel like I was left in limbo I wish there was something people could do about it not being renewed

Jennifer Carpenter is a wonderful actress.destined for greatness I believe.the show is unique,with a very interesting theme.She plays her role in such an interesting way.very subtle,yet intriguing.Tv stations seem to have a talent for cancelling shows with lots of potential and leaving trash which appeals to the masses.Very sad I’m sorry to say.
Both my husband and I really like this show. I was wondering where it went. Go figure every time I like something they cancel it. I must be in a minority.
You always kill the BEST shows….give me a break. There was a lot of news and political things happening so perhaps people didn’t get a chance to get in to the show. It was well done, great actors and definitely deserved at least a 2nd season. Another great show bites the dust. Your standards are way too high and too fast. Good luck on finding a replacement.
Surprisingly liked the show. I feel I am the kiss of death for any program I like.
Sad to think they keep some bad shows and cancel others.

The enemy within is show that I was looking forward to watching. There are a lot of stupid show that have long running I don’t understand
Extremely disappointed but I can understand why the series was cancelled. It would have been great to have the truth revealed and she given a second chance. However, that’s not what the series was about.
Extremely disappointed to find out that the second season is cancelled! My whole family got together and watched thisbshow and we have been anticipating and waiting for the second season with baited breath! Bring it back!!!
