Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

We’re watching the first series in the UK at the moment and are totally gripped by the storyline…..so far. My wife nags me to record the show while she’s at work, she normally only ever watches soaps or romance shows, so this must be an entertaining series. Now I hear that the show has, or is, going the same way as Surface, Invasion, Flash foward…..one series……then when we get hooked they cancel any further seasons. What next, The Walking Dead. There is room on TV and a demand for quality programs like The Event, even if the ratings don’t compare… Read more »
Pantac is spot on, we love this show in the UK!! – we want a second series, the story has only just begun. So much more to reveal, so come on NBC make the 2nd series before someone like the BBC does.
I don’t watch much network TV, I prefer the cable networks. One of the few shows in and handful that I truly enjoyed was the Event. Every single one of the actors are fantastic and believable. I think NBC made a huge mistake in not giving the show a chance and I hope that a smarter network will pick it up and reap the benefits of this excellent show. After the last episode, I am keeping my fingers cross that we will eventually find out why Sophia and her gang left earth in the first place. Good luck Event!
Prior to the new episodes after that winter break, I honestly got tired with the slow-moving plot and massive delay for explanation. But after that, the show has gotten much better after they revealed a lot of secrets and I’m officially hooked after I watched how the human finally fight against those aliens.
With that season’s finale, it would really be sucked if it has to end that way. I’d really love to see how the human react and perhaps there will be a great war if the season is renewed.
Love the show. In a way, it reminds me of 24. Hope the show gets picked up elsewhere.
i love this show its realy the only show that i will not miss and if i am not home i always will record it please put it back
One of the few serial TV shows that I watch. Sorry to see it go. I’d like to see it either on showtime, HBO, or Syfy channels. Glad the finale was left open-ended enough to continue it in the future.
I love this show. Please continue it!!!!
This is the only show my husband and I watch each week on TV. We look forward to the unique and thought provoking storyline. It is refreshing to watch a real show, not a reality show. We are very sad to see the Event go. NBC, you are making a huge mistake. To the actors of the Event: Your talent to bring in your audience is outstanding. You are a beautiful cast. Please come back!!
This is one of the most exciting shows that I have seen in a very long time. There are only so many Dr. and cop shows that a person can take. They have left us hanging!! I just have to know how the baby is going to turn out. Ans may I add that Vice Pres. Jarvis has to get whats coming to him. Please DO NOT CANCEL this wonderful show. They have put together an amazing cast. PLEASE I want to start my Fall lineup with a great show.
I too agree. Do not cancel The Event. It was the only show on TV that I watched from week to week. I am very sick of the reality TV shows. The Event had a great story line and good actors. The ending this season leaves me wanting more. The story isn’t over yet.
Ya morons gonna put on more dancing ****** or fat tubs of lard loosing their grease?
The Event is one of the best TV shows I have seen in a long time. It would be a big mistake to cancel such grea entertainment
My husband and I absolutely loved this series and think that the last episode left the door open for another season. We hope some network will pick it up. The storyline was fascinating and all the actors were perfectly cast. We are sad that our Monday night highlight is at an end. Someone, please do something to bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE do not cancel the Event. I don’t know how the ratings work but I wonder if they count all the people that DVR it or watch it on Demand.
The actors are all great and the story line with all the twists and turns is exciting. I watch reality shows, cable shows, house hunting, cooking….but there are almost no regular series shows that I watch anymore except this. Take a chance and see what happens for all the fans that have enjoyed it and want to know the rest of the story line. Save a great show.
