Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

Are you kidding me. This is a good show that deserves a few more seasons. Put it on cable/satelite and I will be more than happy to pay to watch it.
I am devastated. This show is one of the few that had an excellent plot and kept me riveted to the screen. Other than Law and Order: SVU, this was my favorite. Please do not drop it in a black hole. Let it return somewhere else.
Save the show! That’s the problem with network television, they don’t give shows a chance gain an audience. I started watching The Event on On-Demand and have been hooked since! I hope SyFi picks it up for the second season, I really would hate to see this show end.
the event is an excellent series and must live on!
i love this show, please have some other network pick it up.i am a faithful fan and it was just getting good. nice end for the season…
We’re watching it on Cable on most European Countries… And *many* people watch it on video on demand also! Why would they forget such a global audience?… It’s moronic!
It is a great show and the stories should continue. It would be awesome if it was on SYFI, before or after Being Human, another of my favorite programs.
I love this show and I hope its moved to the SYFI channel or Bravo, maybe even a pay per view webisoed.
Find a home for the event, cable will work. Look at success of Covert Affairs, Sopranos, Curb., Closer, etc.
It’s bad enough that I got hooked on Chgo code and they pulled that.
excellent acting, super storyline..fantastic suspense… Keep in on
I love “The Event,” and would want to see it ANYWHERE!! Hopefully, they’ll be a place for thought-provoking and well-acted scripts that doesn’t need the18 yr. old’s immature attendance to suceed.
There are plenty of us more mature folks who have a lot more money to spend than the “kiddies” do!!
Please DONT cancel the show, one of the best series Ive seen in a while. At least find it a home on another network. The season finale was such a cliff hanger, love to see more. Love the cast. Like someone earlier commented, kill FRINGE (Anna Torv is soooo annoying) and replace it with the Event.
I really hope The Event is not cancelled. I have followed it all the way through and I don’t do this with many TV shows. Plus I was hoping to see if next season Sean and Vicky end up together.
When will TV networks ever learn? They cancelled Star Trek in the 60s for goodness sake – look what happened to that. The Event is a brilliant show, and more than deserves a second series. The acting is first class, the stories are great, the effects are excellent, the direction and editing are terrific – Please – More Event
Yes – Save the Event! Josh Ritter and the rest of the cast are great, and we all need to know what happens when Sophia’s people get to Earth…what’s written in the scrolls…will Leila and the baby be healthy? Someone needs to pick it up.
