Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

why stop now THE EVENT without a real final episode ? Let us know the end, other episodes please !!
Please , come back ! It was my favourite serie, I hope they change idea.
My husband and I were avid, loyal fans of The Event. We eagerly anticipated each new episode. We were heartbroken to learn that the show had been cancelled. Please bring back The Event.
This is like the same mistake that was made with Star Trek back in the 60’s. Look at it now, a cult following…. Are we really suppose to look forward to seeing ,what has now evolved into(scripted Reality TV.? Those shows aren’t even truly reality, they have become a loose based script. Fantasy with a flavor of possibility is what shows like the Event offer. I don’t need to be led by the nose while watching any T.V. show. Shows that let you visit another world, time, place or situation are cancelled, thrown out and disgarded. If I were a network,I would rather have… Read more »
Don’t let it go. It’s the only exciting & interesting new show around.
SAVE THE EVENT PLEASE. Its one of my favorite shows. It would be tragic to leave it where it is now. That’s an atrocity to its fanbase.
the event was GREAT! bring it back SOMEHOW!!
The networks are feeling TV up with nonsense. They should had put more effort in some positive way making it interesting and fun for Television so people come back. They should have put the internet on our remote before phone did. Maybe had picture in picture and could of hooked up to the networks website to answers who is that actor? Answer what show you might have seen him on. Maybe play some trivia maybe even giving laptop something 1000 online visitor. Having more advertising on networks page. Making it fun instead what we are having now, with that bubble… Read more »
I would really love for one of the cable networks to pick up The Event. This is a show definitely worth watching and soooo many unanswered questions in the finale. All too often anymore a show is filmed, then cancelled with no filming of an alternate ending to at least give a show closure for its viewers. Am to the point of not getting invested in any new shows, not that there were too many I saw worth watching come fall. Networks have taken too many of the good ones off.
I am so sick of them cancelling every good science fiction series. I love this show.
It started great, slowed down a bit and the season finale was excellent. Stagate SG-1 was cancelled but the sci-fi channel had the good sense to pick it up and look what a winner it turned out to to be. That is the problem with the industry today. I don’t know how many shows o er the years have been canned leaving you hanging. Come on NBC! Get it together!!!
Please come back!! The only decent show on. Don’t leave and make room for some stupid reality show.
The Event is a great show…great actors and great directing. I was so disappointed to learn that it was cancelled but today saw that there may be a glimmer of hope that it will be picked up by another Producer I hope that happens…it is such a good show..I can’t find the words to do it justice…it was like watching a mini movie each week. Please come back!!
Save “The Event.” The intrigue of “Lost” coupled with the action of “24”. I would pay to watch it.
Great show…and just got very interesting. Intelligent, well-scripted..humans with longevity and superior technology…makes for great ethical and philosophical threads. Would love to see how it plays out. And yes, I would prefer this over all the truly dorky and infantile reality shows. Let’s start supporting television as a medium for all, youth is fleeting and overrated – only a transition.
And nobody rises to low expectations.
the best show in a long time
