It was a very disappointing debut for this high-profile legal drama. In addition to the weak cumulative ratings, the early numbers indicated that many viewers tuned out as the two hour premiere progressed. Fewer people are expected to watch the next episode and The Firm already can’t afford to lose any viewers.
Compared to The Cape’s premiere one year earlier, the peacock network is down by 46% in the demo and 25% in total viewers. The Cape fell to a low 1.2 in the demo before being cancelled by NBC.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The Firm TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

If they would devote more time to the actual Book and Movie theme, the show would be awesome. As it stands, 55 minutes of the show is another law drama and the last 5 minutes they continue the theme of the book and/or movie. This will not work for me.. Don’t need another law drama. They should have made this a TV movie or a mini series and just continued where the book/movie left off. I won’t be watching again after this week as I see they are continuing the same trend. Sorry…
I am enjoying it, but would be content if they decide to run it through the end of the current year and then wrap it up. Once they wrap up the story of deception within the legal drama, it doesn’t have enough to stand long-term. But I do hope they don’t cancel it mid-season leaving all the loose ends of what is going on with the conspiracy.
I also love The Firm! It’s quite suspenseful and I love all the characters. In my opinion, NBC didn’t really market this series correctly–I stumbled on to it purely by accident. Also, almost every site was immediately predicting a sure cancellation, so how can you get anyone to watch it when they’re certain it will be cancelled? I wish the networks would start giving series more than a week before they decide to cancel them–sometimes “word of mouth” actually works. I’m still watching, hoping that it won’t be cancelled.
I love this show if NBC wanted it to stay on the air it should show ads for it instead of showing an ad for Smash every 5 mnutes. The actors are so good, and Josh Lucas has the most interesting male face to come on TV since George Clooney. God that guy is beautiful!
The Firm is so great!! NBC needs to realize that people are already committed to so many shows. Thursday nights are a big night already, so I DVR this show. I’m a loyal fan and am watching it all the time, but on my recordings. Ratings are hard to justify when DVR’s are becoming such a large part of people’s busy lives.
Keep the show! It rocks!
Josh Lucas nails it. Since Deadwood, I’ve been a Molly Parker fan. This show needs a season to develop a loyal fan base and NBC should not shelve it prematurely.
I like the show. I hope it does better.
I have found the story lines of the Firm very interesting
and do hope it will continue. There show has suspense,
ethical issues and very likable characters.
Give it time!
I really like this show… sometimes it seems like it takes awhile for the actors to find their footing and mesh as an ensemble. This show was great out of the gate, good acting, good scripts, I hope it sticks around.
I love The Firm!! It is exciting and edging. I would love to see it for another season!!
Can we dispense with that “this TV series picks up 10 years after the events in the John Grisham novel” b.s.? The series picks up where the MOVIE left off; the novel ended quite differently.
J.P. » NBC had been saying that it was based on the novel. Now their description says that it’s based on both the movie and the book.
I love the Firm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe NBC cancelled Prime Suspect for the predictable and badly acted The Firm. This type of program has been done and done again (yawn): pretty boy lawyer with cute wife and teen daughter. True hard hitting and innovative shows like Chicago Code and Prime Suspect are pulled at the very start and replaced with this mush. Ugh.
Sunday night’s TV schedule is filled…what is NBC surprised by the low ratings? There was no room to record it on my DVR. This past Sunday, I watched and recorded: Leverage, Hell on Wheels, House of Lies, Californication, The Good Wife, Desperate Housewives and Pan Am. However, since NBC is repeating The Firm on Saturday at 8 PM — will be recording/watching it then. Sames goes for having to record encore presentations of the second season of PBS’ Downton Abbey. The Sunday TV schedule is on overload.
