As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

why they must cancel a really good shows make no sense to me
I’m VERY dissapointed to hear this. I still have my DVR set to record when the ‘new’ season started. I’m in my 50’s, and enjoyed it having adults and teen’s with story lines.
I am very upset that abc canceled a great show! This show had awesome story and a great cast! I will really miss seeing Luke Mably every week.
I am so sad that this show was canceled. I thought it was great! Why is it that the network execs never seem to take a shows timeslot into consideration when it gets bad ratings anymore. So often a show is really great, and the only reason it gets bad ratings is because they put it into a lousy timeslot (especially a bad day) for the type of show it is. If they had enough sense to try it on a different day, I think they would find that it would get great ratings.
WOW I CANT BELIEVE THEY CANNED THIS SHOW. THERE ARE ALOT OF FOLLOWERS IN NEW ZEALAND. IT IS PRETTY MUCH WATCHED WORLDWIDE OVER THE NET. EVERYTIME WE GET A DECENT SHOW ABC PULL THE PLUG AFTER ONE SEASON AND DONT EVEN GIVE THE SHOWS TIME TO DEVELOP. ITS JUST TOTAL CRAP……… ABC NEED TO PULL FINGER AND START CHECKING THE RATINGS AND THE INTERNET RATINGS AS WELL .THEY MAY GET A SHOCK AT HOW MANY WORLDWIDE VIEWERS THERE ARE.

I am very saddened by the news. I loved watching The Gates, and was sooooo lookin’ forward to the next season. I don’t know who decided it wasn’t good enough, but they just suck…. However, I have found a wonderful new show on the SYFY channel called Being Human, it’s awesome. I guess the regular tv channels just don’t know what’s good & what’s not…. Thank goodness The Vampire Diaries isn’t on a reg channel or they may cancel it too you go CW channel….
I liked the show too and there was plenty of room to take the story in different directions. I would love to see it come back. Perhaps the SyFy channel will pick it up!
Definitely another network needs to pick this up. This show was BETTER than True Blood – and that’s one of the world’s most popular series. ABC sucks – big network TV sucks. They should have given it to SYFY instead.
I think it totally sucks, sucks, sucks! Why is it that every show that I love is cancelled? Rarely do we find a show with romance, intrigue, mystery, action, highlighted by the presence of vampires, werewolves, and witches?
Whoever cancelled this show without giving it a proper shot should be fired, fired, fired!!!
I totally agree with Mahogany! I hope someone at another network actually reads what we post and picks up the show and gives it a chance!! Same with Swingtown and Happy Town and there are so many more. Networks obviously don’t care about the viewers. That is clear. Medium is gone and now Fringe has been moved to the kiss of death Friday night spot. What is the problem?
It’s all about the MONEY, and trying to beat the other networks in the ratings.

OMG!! GGGGGGRRRRRRR! Man I really loved that show. Its the frist show that I have really liked in years. Of course why wouldnt ABC cancell it? I mean come on its all paranormal so the big (god fearing) boss man probably thought it wasnt what the masses wanted. Which in reality he didnt agree with its content. Dont you love how other people think they know whats best for the masses.
The Gates is one of the best shows ever – it has it all – the drama of One Tree Hill and Desperate Housewives, the Twilight conflict(warewolves vs vampires), even the emotion-spotting as in Lie to me. What more can one want from TV series? How could they cancel it? Whoever decided it should be cancelled has some issues he/she’d better discuss with someone professionally…………….
I am so disappointed. We have numerous shows and movies based on teen life dealing with vampires or werewolves. There was finally something showing you what adults in these type of mythical worlds go through and ABC just had to cancel it. I mean come on they went so far off the wall with it they added a scubas plot with people bringing back demonic spirits(Practical Magic). This show had it all and it’s now gone.
