As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

I am completely disappointed that ABC is not bringing this show back for a second season. It was certainly more interesting than The Vampire Diaries…that lookalike business got old quick and they promote excessive teenage driniking. Looks like the only shows around that people are watching the dancing/singing/realiity shows that are completely boring!
No they should bring back season 2. it has been a good one. why is it always the fact after season 1 comes out, season 2 would be cancelled…. cant you people have your budget for 3 seasons before going ahead… god damn it…..

I’m so disappointed. I just found out it was cancelled. The networks are leaving it impossible to watch anything other than reality TV, cop shows or hospital shows. As much as like a reality show or 2 and of course I like SVU and Grey’s, this was something different that I loved. I actually made a point to stay up late every Sunday night to watch this show and would be junk on Monday morning going to work. Obviously, I’m not the only one out there who thought this show was a breath of fresh air. It’s just too bad.
This stinks! Was favorite show…gonna boycott ABC, they didn’t give show a chance airing it on Sunday night…shame on ABC
Wow I can’t beileve it! This is the second of one of my favorite shows I found to be cancelled. WTH? They have so many STUPID shows on now and the good ones are being cancelled. I absolutely LOVED the Gates. PLEASE BRING IT BAck!
I loved the show!. DO YOU THINK networks r setting up shows 2 FAIL just 2 push in cheaper shows on?. DO YOU REALly THINK America are falling for these shows that required no brains cells.Are we becoming stupid and lazy nation that we cant watch something that required some of our brain cells. Oh man this sucks I loved this show I was so excited for season two, they just left you hanging geez thats the worst!
Totally disappointed! I was googling season two to find out when it will return only to discover the news of it being cancelled….Poor choice network, this show was something to look forward to weekly! Guess I’ll have to stick with Vampire Diaries.
Bring back the show!!!!!!! What a let down! This show is better that the other vampire shows out there ~ akin to Supernatural! And if given the chance, it has the potential to gather an even bigger following! Come on! This show has promise AND substance! BRING BACK THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!

I really wanted to know what would happen next. I do understand because the Twilight Movies are out, the Vampire Diaries, and many more shows have all apeared with vampires and werewolfs. I wanted to know what would happen with his red eyes at the end, but oh well I guess I will have to make up my own ending.

Absolutely loved this program. Didn’t realize it was cancelled until I decided to google the expected return date. I was sorely dissappointed. I’m hoping the producers or whoever has a change of heart about it. I would love to see it return.
