As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

Are you freacking serius! This Sucks! I have been waiting for this show to return. I’m going to stop wacthing this channel. There always caneling shows after the first season!
What a stupid decision!!! Don’t you give things time to develop a following? This show displayed a high degree of originality and fantasy coupled with the fact that it appealed tremendously to youth as well as adult viewers. I bet if another station marketed this program, or had it come out on HBO, no doubt there’d have been many seasons to enjoy. Marketing and popularity have to be worked professionally. Someone fell down on the job here. If it comes back anywhere, I will be right there!!!
They REALLY should do another few Seasons of The Gates!!! Its awesoem! And I am sure they can see how many people want Season 2!!! I google it and can see all the interested people! Bring The Gates Back Please!!
I really enjoyed The Gates. It had a great mixture of the supernatural phenom. Instead of the silly “reality” shows that are continuously shoved down the viewers’ throats, why not allow a little fictitious vigor? I, too, do not understand how one season justifies whether a show should be cancelled or renewed. This show left you on edge and excited for the following episode. I never recall seeing a dull moment. I would love to see SyFy Channel or CW pick this up. I hope the cast of The Gates realize just how truly talented they all are and how… Read more »
I would have loved to have seen The Gates return for several seasons. It was one of very few shows I got into. So not fair!!
Very sad that the Gates has ended, it was like Desperate Houswives meets the supernatural world, I loved it, I am very sad and disapoointed that it will not be returning for a second season, The network should of let it run for a season 2 so that it could get its fanbase built. ABC you suck.
Please Please Please bring back the show – I loved it – it was awesome – Why would you do that!!!!
You ***** are stupid – you don’t know a good show when it’s on – just leave it one – Just leave it be – nobody want’s to see dana delany and more er type **** shows – Give us back our Gates – it was great!!!!
It’s like you ***** shouldn’t even have those jobs – you clearly don’t know what the **** you are doing!!!!!!
Its lne of the 1st series that my husband and I have sat and watched together and enjoyed so much.. Im so disapointed that someonewould amke the decision to run it on air in Australia when they knew it had been axed. That is just cruel to let ppl get attached to it and then to find out when your are hooked on it that it had been cancelled.. Was this a ratings thing because you certainly dont care about your viewers.
I was so upset when I found out that the Gates was cancelled!!!! Someone bring it back….. with all the vampire movies out there right now i’m surprised ABC just didn’t give it longer . Now what am I going to watch on Sundays?????
Wrong! I can’t believe it was canceled! It’s a great show! Bring it back! With all the crap that’s aired, this show was a relief. Great supernatural drama! I am SO DISAPPOINTED! WHY???
WHY ? someone tell me why ? abc you need to put my show back on .ABC you do suck, for taking off my show.
I think it is silly that they cancelled the show after only one season. Will another sindicate pick it up? How about SYFY? They pick up lots of dropped shows… I would love to see this one picked up elsewhere. Don’t you just hate it when a show you really like gets dropped like that and you were waiting for season two and the anticipation of it all….. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
i don’t watch much television and saw a posting of the show on the internet one day. started from the first episode and never missed it. i have always been a vampire geek and i’m 54 yrs old. i loved this stuff before it was even popular. i loved each character and lost myself in each ones life. it was a great break from real life each week. sad but true. so best wishes to all of the cast and hope that you all have great success in the future sincerely. it was awesome. thanks for the thrill.
I am just started watching the show on fox and love it! I am really disappointed that there won’t be a season 2 : (
i’m very up set the show has been cancelled i was really looking forward to seeing another season,i’m very sad and there are alot more dumber shows out there that have more seasons why not one people really like.:(
