After a disappointing run on ABC, the network announced that they were cancelling The Goode Family. It turns out the show’s creators aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.
The Goode Family is an animated series from King of the Hill’s Mike Judge, David Krinsky, and John Altschuler. Featuring the voice talents of Judge, Brian Doyle Murray, Dave Herman, Linda Cardellini, and Nancy Carell, the sitcom follows a working-class family who find it difficult to live politically-correct lives.
The show debuted to low ratings (3.93 million and a 1.6/5 in the 18-49 demo) on May 27th and was shuffled off to Friday nights after three episodes. In its new timeslot, The Goode Family’s viewership dropped even further and averaged a little more than a million viewers each week. It came as little surprise when ABC officially cancelled the show the day after the season finale aired.
The creators of the show aren’t ready to give up on a second season though. Just prior to the cancellation, they wrote to their fans, “The fact that our number of viewers has grown steadily without any network promotion is heartening, especially since DVR hits aren’t counted in the summer. If you like the show, please spread the word. Because of your interest The Goode Family has a shot to live on.”

Later that day, Altschuler followed up with “We will keep you posted as soon as the re-launch of the show is nailed down. We look forward to a decent time slot and some promotion so people get a better chance at seeing it.”
At the time, it seemed as if there were plans to continue the show on ABC. But, after the cancellation news came out, a message from Krinsky and Altschuler made it clear that they have another venue in mind.
They wrote, “That was our first season. We will let all of you know as soon as we have our new network and time slot. A lot of people have asked how they can see episodes they missed and we will try and find an answer. This show has been the most creatively satisfying thing we have ever done and we look forward to continuing it.”
Could The Goode Family truly find new life on a cable channel like Comedy Central or Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim? Should it? Would you change it in some way? What do you think?

they shuld have gotten more viewers,i mean every comedy cartoon series gets a lot of views on fox so they would get a lot of views after cleveland show or simpsons.
The Goode Family really was good! Funnier than King of the Hill ever was (I did enjoy King of the Hill — but this show is better.) FOX should pick up this show and put it where King of the Hill used to be…..or, better yet, put it in the Cleveland Show spot when it begins to lose viewers because people will realize it’s lame. The Goode Family would be a much better fit within the other excellent Animation Domination shows on Sunday.

The Goode family was very good, ABC cancels everything thats anygood. They canceled Eli Stone which was very good as well. I hope Better off Ted manages to survive. No wonder CBS kicks ABC’s butt.
When they bring season one out on DVD we must all BUY it and support them so’s they can make season two and bring enjoyment for all.
Oh shut up! This has nothing to do with Obama or racism. Bring back the Goode family. Of course its ratings dropped after it was moved to Friday night. Who watches tv on Friday night?
They should put this show on FOX since they ended “King of the Hill” and “The Goode Family” can take their place.
We really don’t need more insipid cartoons during primetime. Grownups certainly don’t need them.

The Goode Family was as good a send-up of liberals as King of the Hill was of conservatives. That a racist like Skysodomiser173 didn’t like it demonstrates that the Goode Family aims for a higher IQ demographic.
This show is crap. George Goode was as big a SISSY as Barrack Obama has proven to be to date and as big a pain in the butt as Peggy Hill.I’m Glad it’s gone and burning in hell.
the Goode family is great just how it is, i don’t want any changes… the only thing i could suggest is actually letting people know it exists this time around… i would have completely missed this series if it weren’t for me randomly looking at Mike’s IMDB page and seeing it listed there.
ABC dropped the ball completely on letting people know of this show existence… most King of the Hill/Beavis & Butt-head fans still don’t know this was made.
Enjoyed King of the Hill, and now the Goode Family. Glad to see Judge and Co aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. I think this show would work great on Adult Swim. Sadly I think a lot more shows with decent but not overwhelming ratings will need to look to cable or even internet outlets to stay afloat. The big four networks aren’t interested in keeping anything worth watching around for very long.
We enjoyed the show and managed to see all but one episode. It does not appear that ABC was particularly serious about the show succeeding. The Goode Family skewers both sides. As one of only a few shows that does that, refusing to treat certain liberal positions as sacred, it therefore stands out. Politics aside, TV executives don’t always recognize quality when they see it. Remember that ABC cancelled Police Squad! years ago. Fox cancelled Family Guy twice.
