Is there still a future for The Kids Are Alright? Recently, star Mary McCormack spoke with The Los Angeles Times about her efforts to save the cancelled ABC TV show.
Set in the 1970s, the sitcom centers on the Clearys, an Irish-Catholic family living on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The cast includes Michael Cudlitz, Mary McCormack, Sam Straley, Caleb Foote, Sawyer Barth, Christopher Paul Richards, Jack Gore, Andy Walken, and Santino Barnard.
In the interview, McCormack says she thinks ABC cancelled The Kids Are Alright before its time:
It feels too short. It’s hard to get something really funny and nuanced and moving, and I thought our show was all those things. There’s a lot of stuff I don’t understand about how shows find new homes, but you do hear about it. And I guess because you hear about it, your fans think there’s hope. There are just so many networks now — networks I’ve never heard of. So I’m still holding out a little hope that someone will look at us and see we’re like the already housebroken cute shelter pet that needs someone to adopt them.”
What do you think? Did you watch The Kids Are Alright? Would you have watched a second season?
This was an incredibly well written and funny show. ABC made a huge mistake when they cancelled it. I hope it gets picked up by another network or service and runs for several more seasons.
I’d like this show to be saved, too! Really enjoyed it and was looking forward to a second season. Something is wrong with the executive at ABC who made the decision to cancel even though it had more viewers and higher ratings than some other ABC shows they decided to renew. This decision needs to be revisited! Save The Kids!
I think the issue was this program was too white and the network was in fear this show would cause them to look like they were racially insensitive because there was not enough persons of color which in turn would make folks think ABC was a trump supporter.
Remember. Mickey Mouse now owns ABC
This was an incredibly well written and funny show. ABC made a huge mistake canceling it. I hope it gets picked up by some channel and runs for many more seasons.
We absolutely loved this show! Please bring it back!
The Kids Are Alright needs to come back. It was a show my whole family enjoyed watching together.
I thought it was awesome show
I couldn’t believe the show was being cancelled! It is so well written, the characters blend so well as they would in a real family, and yet each has its unique qualities that set it apart as an individual. Not an easy feat for writers to incorporate nine personalities into a half hour show each week, but they did it brilliantly. About half way through the season, I started turning friends and family onto the show and Wednesdays became a day to compare notes and laugh uproariously. “Kids” was the only sitcom I watched/DVRed every week without fail. So disappointed this show was cancelled. It had an excellent cast of writers and actors. It was so nice to have a show that wasn’t reality on tv that the whole family could watch and all enjoy! It’s a goldmine if another network would pick it up!!
It is so sad that this quality show was was cancelled. It was a true shining light in a sea of rubbish that is on television. It was a jewel that I looked forward to watching each week. Shame on you ABC for not giving it a second season!
Wonderful show! I was so sad it ended!
Love the show, would love to see more of it! I hope someone scoops it up and brings it back to life!
It is the best, smartest, funniest show since I Love Lucy. I would watch as many seasons as they can produce! Stellar cast and stories!
Bring back this wonderful show. Give it a chance to grow. SO much potential.
Loved the show! My family would definitely watch more seasons. We are pretty busy at night usually miss prime time shows and end up watching shows on Hulu.
I loved the show, “The Kids are Alright”!
I would watch every show, and every season! We really miss it!
