TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

It’s so very sad when the public wants good shows on and everything is decided by ratings. Leave the Librarians alone…keep it, it’s a good show and find a way to bring back Leverage!
It is clean wholesome fun for the whole family to watch. We love it! Bring on next season!!!!
Definitely have to keep the Librarians. Great concept and teaches us about history. Must keep this show.
Librarians must March on! Do not cancel.. Bad enough you canceled Perception!!
Please keep the Librarians- the Library, Flynn (along with Rupert Giles) taught me that librarians can be superheroes in their own right.
As lovable as this show is, it has absolutely nothing to do with those of us who’re in or working toward the actual profession. Any chance the writers may balance the adventure with research- we don’t learn everything on the job quite the same way the four recruits do.
All qualms aside: this show has squeezed it’s way into my heart alongside the movies. Viva the Library!
Keep the show. It’s fantastic.
I think my only issue is Rebecca. I love the character of Eve Baird, but there are moments when I’m watching the show and I’m unconvinced by Rebecca’s acting. Like when she was dying at the River of Time. She was talking remarkably well for having been stabbed in the heart. It didn’t really seem like she was dying.
I haven’t seen any of her other shows, so I can’t say if she’s a bad actress or not. I’m just waiting for improvement on her part.
LOVE THIS SHOW! Please renew it!
Keep
Please keep it. It is my new Werehouse 13.
This show is a keeper. This show may be a little cheesy, but the story lines blend of history and fantasy are a rare find in TV today. This show deserves another season.
Keep it. Its: fun, smart, magical and funny. While being clean. Not much clean on TV now days
Love love LOVE The Librarians!! PLEASE keep it!!!
With such a dynamic cast and exciting premise, you can’t help but want more. So much love and effort has been put in and I love to be able to enjoy it. Keep up the good work all!
My New Favorite Show!!! Keep It Going Please : )
