TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

Please keep The Librarians on. It is hard to find a show that everyone can watch TOGETHER. 🙂 In our family, we have a 76yr old female, 50 yr old male, 46 yr old female, 17 yr old male, 13 yr old male and a 9 yr old male. We all like your show and can hang out without anyone arguing. Now that is a talented show that can do that. Edgy shows are everywhere, but who can find an entertaining show that lets you spend time with your family?
My husband and I loved this season. We hope this show gets another chance! We wanting to see the new season start in the winter. LOVED IT!
Keep The Librarians going it’s a great show… There is still so much more that can be done with the show… So much more history and lore that can be used to create new and interesting episodes.
I do like it, but it’s a bit too silly. Why didn’t they just keep Warehouse 13 alive? If this show could strike a slightly more elusive balance, I believe it would attract more viewers. Do I want it renewed, though? Yes, unless they have something I know would be better in its place.

What the show is missing is they need to be looking for stolen objects and more travel to foreign country’s or different locations like the movies
