TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it. If you worry about needing more of a following, put it up on Netflix or Hulu. There are shows that have become revitalized by being on Netflix. Jericho and Arrested Development are two shows that come to mind. Keep it.
KEEP IT!!!!!
You need to keep the Librarians because this is one of the greatest shows your station has ever aired. My son loves this show because he understands lindsey is the math person and he understands her because he enjoys math so much. Keep this show and it will shine like a diamond in the sky don’t let it go.

Keep it. One of the best shows on tv. After canceling leverage and now perception, TNT needs to keep the librarians. Please!!!!
Keep!
Please keep it! I am still mad that TNT cancelled Dallas, but sort of redeemed themselves when they introduced The Librarians. I have always loved The Librarian movies, so was excited to hear there would be a show. Though I wish Noah was in every episode, they still did a fantastic job of casting and the stories. Please keep it up!
Please keep the series going! My mom & I love it! Even though now we are miles apart, we look forward to watching & talking about the show.
Keep it!!!
Keep it, my kids and myself love it.

Please keep it!! It’s very rare these days that we can sit down and watch a show as a family and this is one of them! My kids love this show and not just because we let them stay up late to watch it, haha. We actually had a conversation about last night’s shows this afternoon, so refreshing!!
Keep it! It’s one of my households favourites. I’d hate to see it gone!!
