Oprah Winfrey’s favorite interior designer, Nate Berkus, will soon be available for other projects. His daytime talk series, The Nate Berkus Show, has been cancelled after two seasons on the air.
The decorating series — often referred to as The Nate Show — debuted September 13, 2010 in syndication. Despite having a loyal following, the Berkus show didn’t catch on with a big enough audience. It’s been averaging about 1.4 million viewers this season. New episodes will continue to be produced and air until the end of this season but there won’t be a third.
In a join statement, Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Studios said, “After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall… We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, [executive producer] Corin Nelson and their entire team have poured into the show, and we’re very proud of what they’ve delivered.”
Berkus said, “I’m incredibly proud of my hard working and talented staff, and proud of the show we were able to produce every day.”
The cancellation doesn’t come as a big surprise, especially given the ratings and the show’s expense. The peacock network initially signed a three year deal with Sony for the Berkus Show but recently made deals for new daytime talk shows from Steve Harvey and Jeff Probst. Given the limited number of daytime time slots, that move didn’t seem to leave any room for The Nate Berkus Show.
In some markets, Berkus filled the timeslot left vacant by The Bonnie Hunt Show, a program that was also dropped after two seasons in 2010.
What do you think? Will you miss Nate Berkus’ program? Should it continue on Winfrey’s OWN network?

My husband was very sick, from Oct. 2011 – Feb. 2012. I sat with him everyday in the hospital and became addicted to Nate’s show. I am soooooooooo not a crafty person, but I loved seeing his neat ways to improve the things you have. Now everyday that I have off I watch his show. I can’t believe they are going to cancel his show, what are they going to fill it with?! Another Dr. Phil like show that depicks someones horrible life? I want Nate, something uplifting, not depressing! Please reconsider NBC!
Why did they cancel Nate’s show? What a TOTAL loss to viewers. Finally a joyful, creative show that inspires us. He is the epitome of youthful inspiration. Every day he demonstrates that there are no limitations. In today’s poor economy, he teaches how to surround ourselves in beauty on very shoe string budgets. He teachs us to envision exciting possibilities while simultaneously being kind to our environment through repurposing “treasures” from thrift stores. Nate is today’s ultimate guru in the art of living. What can we do to get him back?
I believe in making the most with what you have or can afford. Nate brought so much to that philosophy. He made ones living space chic and very expensive looking for a quarter of the price. So many innovative decorating cooking and entertaining ideas. It figures that the shows that give a lot get cancelled. Everyone is only concerned with the money they make. Good ole greed wins again! Certainly Bonnie Hunt cared and gave to all as well. I wish TV would soften a bit on making so much money.
I sure will miss this marvelous show with its outstanding Nate. I have to thank you for all the good ideas you have shared and with such class. You are the best person for the job, and I cannot believe that it is being cancelled. But who ever said NBC was wise. Not me for sure. I would think that another net work would see the value of having some one who is decent, refined, and very personable for their network. love to you, my fine friend . From an admirer, who is 74 and yet young at heart and… Read more »
I love this show! I get so many good tips and ideas. I’m so upset to hear that it’s canceled. I don’t watch much tv as it is and this is one of my favorites!! Very sad…
This breaks my heart! I have followed this talented inspiring guy since his first day on the Oprah Show….he is quality tv while being a quality guy that’s looking out for us. He definitely understands his audience and how we live the networks are so greedy they need a Nate reality check cuz I will not be watching whatever junk they put in its place! Shame on the greedy Network CEOs….Oprah you need to stick up for Nate!
Yes, I am sorry that the Nate Show has been cancelled….thought it had lots of good ideas and information. and , Yes, I think Oprah Winfrey show pick it up and continue it on the OWN network.
I think that OWN should consider picking up the Nate show. Gonna miss this informative show. He is such a nice guy. He loves everyone. Gracious, giving, and super cute!
I agree, he is soooo nice and personable to his guests and audience. This is outrageous! Jeff should stick to Survivor, and Steve should stick with his radio show, and family feud. Nate will be missed! I hope another network picks him up. Maybe the OWN network?
I love the show. It has it all! he is what Martha Stewart tried to be.
Nate Berkus has to be the most likeable chap on TV and I have gleaned so much valuable information from his show. It is both entertaining and information.
I am shocked to hear that the show is being cancelled. There is so much dross on TV these days and something fresh and positive like this gets cancelled?? Is there nothing that can be done?
What?! Come on! I love Nate. Please, someone pick it up. OWN? HGTV is a good idea. I’ll miss you Nate.
I’m very annoyed that the Nate Show has been cancelled after only two seasons. It seems that quality programming that brings joy to life and has its own following is still not enough for television. It’s all about the money!
I hope the Nate Show will continue its programming on OWN, it’s too good to just fade away. Thank you Nate for one of the best shows ever on t.v.!
Nate is a wonderful show and it will be a shame to cancel it. He brings good clean and educational entertainment to daytime tv. I guess I will have to watch another network at this time slot!!!!!
So sad to hear about this cancellation…I’m hoping OWN will pick the show up! It would make a lot of sense. And if not OWN, then maybe HGTV…
It’s a shame, but it all boils down to money. Forget about quality content! Television today tends to be about mostly about shock value and plays down to the audience. How sad.
Hopefully there’s somebody out there who can step in and bring the show back in a similar format to an audience that appreciates it. I wish Nate and his entire crew all the best for the future, whatever it holds!
I’m very disappointed. Nate’s show was one that I looked forward to every day. It’s hard to understand when there’s so much junk on TV and then Nate comes along and I found him very refreshing and wholesome. I guess like every thing else it’s greed, money and power that takes all!
