A medical drama, The Night Shift wasn’t exactly a hit in the ratings when NBC aired the first season last summer. They renewed it for a second season and decided to give it a much better timeslot — airing behind their biggest series, The Voice. Will the ratings rise high enough to justify a third season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!
The Night Shift revolves around the quirky but devoted staffmembers of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk til dawn. The cast of the medical drama includes Eoin Macken, Freddy Rodriguez, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, Jeananne Goossen, and J.R. Lemon.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/9 update: NBC has renewed The Night Shift for a third season. Details here.
Final season averages: 1.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.29 million total viewers.

For comparisons: The first season of The Night Shift (which aired during the summer months) averaged a 1.4 rating in the demo and 6.59 million viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Night Shift TV show? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Waiting and Waiting… what happened to this show…

Bring NightShift back
Night shift is a great show. Whoever decideds which shows stay on or cancealled has not got a clue what is a great show.
I love show I have been looking forward for season opener. Please do not cancel this show. I have TiVo set to record every show . Thank you
I love this show and I want to know what was happening at the end of the last season!!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!
Please please give me the new start date! !! We love this sbow
I love this show. I started watching it on Hulu Plus. I really don’t think it was given a really good time slot. It needs to be earlier. There are so many really terrific real-time situations that are dealt with on the show which I love. This is the show that I’ve enjoyed watching with my kids and gives us a chance to discuss what we’ve seen. Family time is priceless
We love the night shift please bring it back!!!!!
I would really hope to see The Night Shift come back to television for good. I myself was a nurse & I really believe this is one, if not, the best medical shows I have seen. The actors/actresses are excellent !! Having some of the medical staff be in military, esp. now, with everything going on in the world today, is amazing !!! A JOB WELL DONE PRODUCERS!!!!! I would watch this show faithfully!!! Be don’t take it off !!!
Please bring back night shift. I love that show its so good. I am also a night shift worker so I love the show I really hope there is another season
I love that show. Yes please bring it back !
Love this show! So glad it’s coming back. THANK YOU!!!!!!
I really love that show and will be definitely disappointed if it is not renewed. There is another show (new) relating to the same subject – I WILL NOT BE WATCHING IT. Not fair.
The Night Shift should STAY! Do NOT cancel another great show! They don’t become great overnight and if good shows keep getting crappy time slots and put up against bigger shows you are bound to have bad ratings!
