Based on the Neil Simon stage comedy (which later spawned movie and a couple TV show incarnations), this sitcom revolves around two single friends who are trying to figure out how to live together without killing each other.
Endearing slob Oscar Madison (Matthew Perry) is a sports-writer and uptight neat freak Felix Unger (Thomas Lennon) is a photographer. They’re two former college buddies who become unlikely roommates after the demise of their marriages. Felix has been kicked out by his wife Ashley while Oscar’s ex Gaby (Lauren Graham) divorced him because of he’s such a slob. Felix still has feelings for Ashley while Oscar is happier without Gaby but does miss his kids.
It’s not long after Oscar agrees to let Felix move in with him that Oscar’s fear that he’s made a monumental mistake is realized. However, despite how exasperated they make each other, these mismatched friends agree they can help each other move on from their divorces and somehow make their crazy living arrangement work.
Oscar and Felix try to date Casey (Leslie Bibb) and Emily (Lindsay Sloane) — two attractive sisters who are roommates in the same building. They are also both recently divorced.
In addition, Oscar holds poker games regularly and one of the players being Teddy (Wendell Pierce), an extremely naive policeman. Dani (Yvette Nicole Brown), Oscar’s assistant, attempts to keep his life in order but it’s a losing battle.

What do you think? Di you like this version of The Odd Couple TV show? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for another season?
I was very disappointed with the entire effort to remake The Odd Couple. I totally agree with Tiffany. There was nothing like watching Tony Randal and Oscar Madison as The Odd Couple. Let’s face it….times have changed. Gone are the days of watching a quality “funny” comedy show. Actors these days seem so artificial. This show is definitely NOT something any retirement home resident would be interested in watching because a majority of them grew up watching either Tony Randal and Oscar Madison as The Odd Couple or Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
I tried it once – didn’t expect much and wasn’t disappointed. Terrible show. Turned it off after they thought it was funny to kill a canary (accidentally sucked into a vacuum, then reversed to shoot it across the room). Please cancel.
I turned it off after the canary incident as well. It’s sad that the death of an animal is now considered something to laugh at. What in the world has happened to us?
I like it as well as I did the original Odd Couple. The did a good job getting it up to our present culture and technology. I do get tired of the “canned laughter”, but hard to find current TV programs that don’t include murder or reality.
Who chose Thomas Lennon? Who thought he would ever work as Felix Unger? His acting is forced, stiff and ‘Hammy’. Perry’s Oscar has absolutely no traits of the original. he’s not much of a slob, he’s not angry, he’s not broke, and he’s not funny. It’s odd that Matthew Perry was the funniest one on ‘Friends’, but can’t keep a show on the air. This won’t even last as long as his show ‘go on’. Even the retread with Ron Glass and Demont Wilson from the 1980’s was better and they just re-shot the original scripts.
This is the worst show on TV.
Mathew Perry should just retire. His acting sucks.
I hate this show, and will not watch it at all.
It just is not funny and all the canned laughter in the world doesn’t help.
Sorry, I was expecting a good entertaining tv show. But it really is bad.
Flop that is what it is, A Flop.
the parts that are so funny are outweighed by the parts that are disgusting………leave out the sex language and innuendos. We won’t watch again. Really you put this on prime time for kids to see?
This show is so bad it should not even get a second episode! Is this the best TV can do these days? Pathetic. I’ll take the original show any day.
Oh, and by the way, that apartment definitely does not fit the sloppy character of Oscar. I don’t think he would ever have lived in such a fancy place.
I wasn’t sure at first but i like. it hope it stays on
Very disappointed.
Cancel it. Put us out of our misery. Why would we want to watch
sitcom where everyone barks and shouts at each other along with facial grimaces that go nowhere. Nothing is funny, Put the original show (Randall/Klugman) back and let the “kids” watch something good. M. Perry should do drama as he’s very good at that.
He is not a comedian.
Actually, we didn’t think we’d like it but we did. Yes, I know, it stole a lot of the same jokes that were in the original movie but so what? As for using Modern Family for script ideas? LOL… that show has long since run it’s course and is no longer funny. You can blame the couple with the 3 kids for that… He’s an idiot and she’s a know it all. Don’t get me started on those kids….
I wanted to like this show. But, after watching fifteen minutes of it, I realized that it just wasn’t working. If you’ve seen the original Neil Simon film “The Odd Couple” or even watched the 1970s television version with Klugman and Tony Randell, you know that this new reincarnation hasn’t got the snap or sparkle of the other two. The writing in this CBS bad imitation of “The Odd Couple” is sophomoric with an irritating laugh track prodding us to find something remotely funny in this boring series. Matthew Perry is horribly miscast as the slob and grouch Oscar Maddison.… Read more »

The writers today have no imagination or any clue as to a decent story line. The original odd couple was the best. The remake of Ironside did not work. The original with Raymond Burr was the best. The remake of Dallas even though some of the original cast were in it did not cut it. The only decent scripted program The Divide which was superb was cancelled. The writing was excellent. Remakes do not contain the quality of entertainment as the original shows.
Give it a chance. I couldn’t stick out more than the first five minutes, but I’ve seen the ‘real’ odd couple shows and this appears as an updated imitation. But others may find it new or refreshing – if not an imitation of Big Bang Theory. I’d prefer the talent attached created something original to entertain us. They are capable.
This could have been funny with these two guys, but the script really stunk. If not for the bogus laugh track I might not have been able to guess where the funny was supposed to be. Unfortunately this goes back to that very tired old cookie cutter formula of comedy where trying to insert cutesy comments is the same as comedy. They need to watch Modern Family or The Middle to see how to make a script funny for those with intelligence. This sort of comedy might work in retirement homes, but otherwise I don’t think it’ll last long unless… Read more »
