Are you ready for more of the Mikaelsons? The Originals TV show on The CW has been renewed for a fifth season. The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries spin-off kicked off on March 17th and is still ongoing. The show was on the cancellation “bubble,” so this renewal obviously comes as good news for the fans.
The Originals stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood, and Riley Voelkel. Claire Holt and Leah Pipes guest star. The CW supernatural drama series follows the Mikaelson family, the world’s first vampires, as they battle to reclaim New Orleans.
The Originals: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Originals is averaging a 0.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 972,000 viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 9% and up by 6%, respectively.
When we sort by the demo ratings, The Originals ranks tenth among the 16 CW TV shows we’re tracking. Sorting by average total audience size bumps it up to the ninth position. This season five renewal makes sense, since it will help beef up The Originals‘ syndication package.
As previously reported, Michael Narducci is departing as showrunner and series creator Julie Plec will take over. Leslie Morgenstern will also executive-produce.

Thank God! At least one of my shows is staying on! Is the CW listening to its viewers after all? I was beginning to wonder. The Originals* is, and has been my absolute favorite since it aired! I have voted anywhere and everywhere I could find to keep this show, and others. The last I’d heard it had been cancelled along with The Vampire Diaries(my second favorite) since TO* aired. I love this show and I’m so happy they are renewing it for another season. When the vampire diaries was cancelled I was heartbroken but seeing The Originals thrive makes me super happy.
Top show never watched tvd until season 2 of the originals , hope some of the cast arrive on set Caroline for eg. must agree most original show ever. shame torrent downloads don’t go towards the ratings as each episode has nearly 1mil downloads
I love love love this show, as much as I loved the vampire diaries.. I believe Julie plec is so genius.. I would literally die if they disn’t renew.. it’s by far one of the best shows out there period…
In my opinion, this is the best show I have ever watched. It is sad so many people view other shows (EG the walking dead) which I can’t say are bad, but this show is so underrated. that show gets 10 million viewers this one should be getting at least that. It is the best show I have ever seen or at least in a very long time. I can only pray the CW continues it. It’s of of those shows where the viewership drops and your stuck hanging.
