Are you ready for more of the Mikaelsons? The Originals TV show on The CW has been renewed for a fifth season. The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries spin-off kicked off on March 17th and is still ongoing. The show was on the cancellation “bubble,” so this renewal obviously comes as good news for the fans.
The Originals stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood, and Riley Voelkel. Claire Holt and Leah Pipes guest star. The CW supernatural drama series follows the Mikaelson family, the world’s first vampires, as they battle to reclaim New Orleans.
The Originals: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Originals is averaging a 0.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 972,000 viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 9% and up by 6%, respectively.
When we sort by the demo ratings, The Originals ranks tenth among the 16 CW TV shows we’re tracking. Sorting by average total audience size bumps it up to the ninth position. This season five renewal makes sense, since it will help beef up The Originals‘ syndication package.
As previously reported, Michael Narducci is departing as showrunner and series creator Julie Plec will take over. Leslie Morgenstern will also executive-produce.

I love the originals!! I’ve loved it right from the start even more then VD, I know it’s the spin off but it sucked me in first episode.. no joke.. please don’t cancel the originals. I barely wait for it to come back on. And all my family and friends watch it.. the acting is great and lots of action, keeps you always in need of more. Just my thoughts!!! PRETTY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT CANCEL. THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!! 🙂
Love the Originals, way better then Vampire diaries. They should count Netflix in the ratings, watch most tv shows there.
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE “The Originals”!! Have always liked it better than TVD. I thought that they would bring some of the old crew from TVD over to “The Originals”. Well, maybe season 5 will give Klaus another chance with Caroline. I must say the little girl that plays Hope is an excellent little actress. I am very disappointed that season 4 is being cut short! The originals is an amzing show!!! Please don’t cancel it !!! In my opinion it is WAY better than vamp diaries, don’t get me wrong I like the vamp diaries but I LOVE originals!!! I love New Orleans and it is awesome to see my favorite city in such a great show!! Also ratings are stupid! Do they take into fact that ppl watch the show on other platforms or wait till it comes out on Netflix as well? I am stationed overseas I cannot get it unless I torrent kodi it bc the cw doesn’t work over here ……… Read more »

Please do not cancel love this show. First I lose Vampire Diaries then Reign( which I loved) and now the Originals. Please bring Reign back and continue The Originals. The ending of Reign was just terrible and sad. No time just rushed and thrown together. There was so much more story line with that show. Woman empowered the two queens united would have been a nice change of pace. So please continue with The Oringinals another of my favorites. I love this show even though I’m only on the 2nd season and still binge watching, I loved the vampire diaries as well. The only reason that I’ve waited this long to watch the originals is because I knew tvd was almost over by the time I had caught up so I simply waited until it was over to start TO and since I have I’ve cried(I’m a sap for movies and shows) and I’ve loved every bit of it. I’m hoping it lasts longer than tvd truthfully because the way tvd ended I feel like they rushed it.
Absolutely love this show I’ve always been a fan of all the werewolf and vampires and witches kind of things glad to see all three on one t.v show I recently found this show and can’t stop watching it hell sometimes I’m late for work because I can’t turn the tv off lol So I’m very pleased to see there is going to be a season 5 . Plus I think the main actors and actresses are handsome and gorgeous they all play great roles for there positions … ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Can’t wait
Please do not cancel #The Originals”. It is a wonderful. I was hooked completely from the first show to the end of season 3. Netflix hasn’t gotten season 4 yet.
Like I said it is a great show and I’m grinding my teeth to see them all. Try to speed up Netflix.
We love the Originals! I don’t think the statistics are right. They only go off of live TV viewers and delayed DVR till 3am of the same night airing. This is wrong and unfortunately they are deciding to cancel shows based on this way of recording viewers. I can’t remember the last time I watched live TV. We always record and watch the next day. Everyone I know records with the DVR and watches later. Especially in the demographic age group they are trying to teach. People from 18-49 have busier livestyles and are more likely to record and watch… Read more »
I am older not young i love the series so much irs full of romace i like the chemistry between Elijah and Hayley the protection of the family and i do not watch live TV in my country one thing over and over so i have WI-FI so download movies and series this is one good Series please please let it go on for n long time like Criminal Minds we really want to look at good shows like The Originals good actors are playing these rolls. Only you can make this happen
I totally agree. With work schedules sorry difficult for us to watch it live. I try to watch it as soon as possible but sometimes it takes me a couple of days before I view the show. I totally agree that your ratings are incorrect unless you’re only concerned about Life ratings. This is a great show and I would love to continue watching an it’s too soon to cancel there’s so many stories to be told and the spin-off would love to see Caroline in this.

❤️❤️❤️ This show!! Sooooo happy it will be returning for another season. I have always been a huge vampire fan, I was hoping we wouldn’t loose our only vampire series we have left. I also enjoy all the characters in this show, gotta love those Mikaelsons.

From the onset of Season 1, episode 1 this show has blown it’s parent show, “The Vampire Diaries” out of the cemetery! This show has it ALL! So happy to hear that the CW didn’t make a horrid mistake and cancel one of their best series, only 2nd to “Supernatural”!
Please keep this show on the air. The actors are amazing
