Are you ready for more of the Mikaelsons? The Originals TV show on The CW has been renewed for a fifth season. The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries spin-off kicked off on March 17th and is still ongoing. The show was on the cancellation “bubble,” so this renewal obviously comes as good news for the fans.
The Originals stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood, and Riley Voelkel. Claire Holt and Leah Pipes guest star. The CW supernatural drama series follows the Mikaelson family, the world’s first vampires, as they battle to reclaim New Orleans.
The Originals: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Originals is averaging a 0.34 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 972,000 viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 9% and up by 6%, respectively.
When we sort by the demo ratings, The Originals ranks tenth among the 16 CW TV shows we’re tracking. Sorting by average total audience size bumps it up to the ninth position. This season five renewal makes sense, since it will help beef up The Originals‘ syndication package.
As previously reported, Michael Narducci is departing as showrunner and series creator Julie Plec will take over. Leslie Morgenstern will also executive-produce.

Omg im SO SO HAPPY they decided to renew for a 5th season!! Idk about anyone else but i could watch this show til the end of… forever! Seeing their incredible lives and after learning all the back stories/family history and seeing their family troubles ups and downs and everyone ALWAYS coming after them.. i CANNOT get enough of this family!! So happy to see The Originals has been renewed for a Fifth Season, I have been watching every week. Been In Love with The Mikaelson’s Family since Vampire Diaries. The season finale was sad, especially with Elijah wanting to forget everything. The Bond between Klaus and Elijah is always tugging at the Heart. happy for Rebekah and Marcel and Kol and Davina. Haley and Hope at Alaric and Caroline’s School. Looking forward to seeing Season 5 in the Fall of this Year. <3
Don’t cancel the show I love it better than the VD.
I LOVE LOVE the Originals! Way better than TVD. Better acting, better scripts, better storylines! I sit on the edge of my seat, I cry with departures ( Like Jackson & Cami- bring them back!). And as an added bonus – it’s nice to see cast from the Vampire Diaries ( like Alaric, and Tyler ) make guest appearances to tie it all in. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. HERE’S TO A GREAT SEASON 5. AM BEYOND ECSTATIC!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THE ORIGINALS and definitely am so glad they are going to be around for another season because I must admit I was a bit worried it wasn’t after watching the season finale right now it was an ending that seemed like thats it, dont get me wrong I loved it, had me crying and everything, just so happy that’s not the end of the Mikaelson’s! renew..this is an awesome show. It is literally the only one that I wait for every week. There is nothing else on the T.V. worth watching…hopefully season 5 will be a lot better, (at times it was kind of boring), but I wait every week to watch it. I hope that they find a role for Bonnie from the Vampire Diaries to add..that would be amazing!!!!

I am an avid fan of the originals and hope the series is renewed. Unfortunately the CW has taken off multiple shows we watch and I hope the originals is not one of them.
Very glad the renewed it. It is the only show I currently watch on the CW. Best soap or series I have seen in a long while. Way better than Supernatural or Reign.
Keep the originals !! I love them!! Almost more then vampire diaries!! Don’t take another great show off the air!!
I enjoy this show greatly and Im not in the demo…I will be 60 and a big fan….love Klaus (bad boy) miss a few characters tho..but keep it up….
I love this show. This show makes you sit on the end of your chair. Makes you cry, feel the feelings of the family, and cheer for the Originals to be the victory at the end of the show. Feel happy and relieved when they are there to save the day. I am over 55 and must say this is a very well written, directed show. Please keep the show going. Maybe some advertising of the show will bring more followers. I have told many folks and they had no idea, started watching, and love the show now.

I was hoping The Originals would be renewed. Just watched the series finale and I am very sad to see it end. I hope CW reconsiders and brings it back!
