After The Playboy Club was cancelled by NBC, Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wrote, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” Chad Hodge, the TV series’ creator and executive producer, agrees and hopes that the show will find new life there. Hodge is a Chicago native who previously worked on shows like Tru Calling and created CW’s Runaway.
He recently told Out, “I think NBC gave up too soon… Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected — it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”
Hodge is hopeful however that another NBC channel might still rescue Playboy Club. He said, “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo — a quarter of our NBC audience — it would be a runaway hit.”
The show creator believes that Americans are too conservative about sex, but too liberal when it comes to violence. He noted, “What happened? Remember Basic Instinct? Fatal Attraction? The Red Shoe Diaries? We’ve become such prudes… Sexuality is part of life. I’d be more worried about my kid seeing horrific violence than I would about them seeing network-approved make-out sessions.”
What do you think? Is Bravo a better fit for Playboy Club? Would you watch it there?

Please save this show. I think it is fabulous. It has all the makings for another gorgeous, stylish, brave, and bold peek into America’s wonderful, glamorous, historical, controversial past. We need this show. I love it. It never had a chance to gain a following. Someone please bring it back. Look at how Madmen caught a huge audience. Please be wise and bring it back to TV. It has it all and I would watch it for sure!! I am deeply disappointed that it was taken away. That was the wrong thing to do. That show was great. The cast… Read more »
I too love this show. I love the era that it portrays and will definitely watch it if it gets moved to Bravo. I agree the networks don’t give shows the opportunity to thrive before they ax them. This was the only new show aside from Pan Am that even piqued my interest to watch. Lets have another crime drama shall we… Eddie Cibrian (spelling) and the actress who plays Carol Lynne are great together. Come on Bravo, step up to the plate and give this show a platform. Look at Mad Men, cable show, fantastic, same type of genre,… Read more »
I hope that Bravo picks up the playboy club! I thought that it was a great show!!
Please put this show back on….pleeeeease!!!
I’m so dissapointed about the cancellation of Playboy Club. I enjoyed it a lot. The cast was definitely chosen carefully as they seem to match their roles with their looks. Nick is sexy! Pls let me know when & where it might continue.
if it went to bravo i would watch nbc always cancels shows before they even have a chance
Please NBC move the show but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t take it away,I love the costumes, the mob, the girls, the old time scenary,I love it,I love it,I love it.Me and my guy watches and loves the show. We very seldom get a juicy story in a show like this.
I would watch it on whatever channel they put it on. Great Show! NBC folks are a bunch of wimps for giving up on it!
please PLEASE keep the show, move it or whatever… but don’t take it off the air!
Hell yeah we (me and my fiancee) would watch the show on Bravo! It’d be one reason for us to keep our cable. Best wishes and hope it finds a home.
I was really surprised the show was cancelled as I was really getting into the show and thought it was one of the better ones on tv. Go figure they finally make a show I like and then it gets cancelled.. I think it would do well on bravo or hbo. I did not think that there was anything really offensive in the scripts.
I would definitely watch this show wherever it goes. As a Chicagoan, I loved watching the show! Daley and his machine, the mob, the club, the costumes. Can’t wait for it to show up soon. Someone pick it up please!!
This is a wonderful show. I am shocked that there was such opposition to an entertaining and far from controversial series. Why don’t the hypocritical critics complain about the inane, violent shows so prevalent on TV? The violence on TV threatens to mutilate the psyche of a whole generation of young people! I seldom find anything to watch these days on network TV. Let us hope Bravo takes the show and runs with it!
