After The Playboy Club was cancelled by NBC, Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wrote, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” Chad Hodge, the TV series’ creator and executive producer, agrees and hopes that the show will find new life there. Hodge is a Chicago native who previously worked on shows like Tru Calling and created CW’s Runaway.
He recently told Out, “I think NBC gave up too soon… Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected — it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”
Hodge is hopeful however that another NBC channel might still rescue Playboy Club. He said, “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo — a quarter of our NBC audience — it would be a runaway hit.”
The show creator believes that Americans are too conservative about sex, but too liberal when it comes to violence. He noted, “What happened? Remember Basic Instinct? Fatal Attraction? The Red Shoe Diaries? We’ve become such prudes… Sexuality is part of life. I’d be more worried about my kid seeing horrific violence than I would about them seeing network-approved make-out sessions.”
What do you think? Is Bravo a better fit for Playboy Club? Would you watch it there?

I want the show to come back as well. I was totally upset when I heard it was cancelled. Dont we have enough “csi shows” I would watch the show on any channel. Please bring Playboy back!!!
Bring it back!!!! Loved the show!
PLEASE just don’t cancel it all together!! I now am left hanging….
BRAVO works for me and I PROMISE to continue to be a LOYAL FOLLOWER!!!!!
The show was great , please bravo pick up the playboy club!
This show needs a home! The fans are outspoken and active on social media. We CAN do this!
SAVE THE PLAYBOY CLUB!!!
My Fiancee and I immediately loved this show. Hef and the Playboy Club are iconic and NBC should have embraced this fact and increased their effort to make it work, not buckle to the bullies. My fiancee and I watch alot of shows on the Bravo Network and we really hope they give The Playboy Club a new home there.
The show was great! I was so upset when I heard the show was cancelled. I could not believe it. I was hooked from day one. If NBC caved to the pressure of prudes then send Playboy Club to cable. I’ll watch it there and so will my friends. It was one of the few new shows worth watching this fall.
This show is awesome! I’d watch it whichever channel it’s on.
This was an awesome show, nothing like it at night time.
It was not offensive at all; I see more sexuality on Disney channel kids’ shows, where they should restrict that!
The show is tilled the “PLAYBOY CLUB”, it is expected to see anything sexual.
I see more sexuality on “TWO and a Half Men”!!! Yet it is still on the air, and watched by all genders ang age groups…So strange, I don’t get it!!!!!
Also, saw more sexuality on “Desperate House Wives”!!!
I love this show and I’m really hoping some channel picks up “The Playboy Club”.
I think that NBC definitely should have given the show a chance. Do people complain about childre seeing documentaries in school containg graphic images. No, due to the fact that they say it is a part of history. Whacurately portrays t people dont realize is that The Playboy Club was a huge part of pop culture in the 50s and 60s. It is also a great history lesson in the fact that it accurately depicts Chicago in the early 60s. You cant deny that the mafia was a large part of any major metropolis at the time. To this day… Read more »
Please save this show, I think it needs better marketing strategies so that people are aware of this show! Many friends I’ve spoken to didn’t know it existed until they heard from a friend. And when they watch the first three episodes they were in love! I admire the 70’s risque and classiness of the show. PLEASE SAVE IT! It is definitely a guilty pleasure!
I watched one episode, and am in love with The Playboy Club. I would most definitely watch it if Bravo were to pick up the show. I realllyyyy hope that someone does, and SOON! Best show I’ve seen in a long time…I’ve already become obsessed.
The best show I will watch it on any network hope it gets picked up somewhere soon I can’t believe NBC cancelled it so soon.
I would totally watch the show on any TV network! I really liked it and was disappointed when it was cancelled. I hope we will get to see the rest of it; I’m curiuos to see what will happen to the characters.
