After The Playboy Club was cancelled by NBC, Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wrote, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” Chad Hodge, the TV series’ creator and executive producer, agrees and hopes that the show will find new life there. Hodge is a Chicago native who previously worked on shows like Tru Calling and created CW’s Runaway.
He recently told Out, “I think NBC gave up too soon… Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected — it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”
Hodge is hopeful however that another NBC channel might still rescue Playboy Club. He said, “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo — a quarter of our NBC audience — it would be a runaway hit.”
The show creator believes that Americans are too conservative about sex, but too liberal when it comes to violence. He noted, “What happened? Remember Basic Instinct? Fatal Attraction? The Red Shoe Diaries? We’ve become such prudes… Sexuality is part of life. I’d be more worried about my kid seeing horrific violence than I would about them seeing network-approved make-out sessions.”
What do you think? Is Bravo a better fit for Playboy Club? Would you watch it there?

THIS SHOW IS MEANT FOR BRAVO!!! if bravo takes the playboy club it will be the best ever, and it will approach a whole new audience and get tons of ratings. best idea ever!! GO FOR IT!! soon!!
This was by far one of the best, if not the best new show of the season! I looked forward to watching it since I first heard about it. It is a shame that the sponsers gave in because of a few “outraged” women! The Playboy Club was and is fixture of American culture. The “bunnies” are & were treated better than an average waitress or stirpper. The club afforded them opportunities they would not other wise have. If these women didn’t like it, don’t watch it, change the channel; as for children being able to see it, it was… Read more »
Please bring it back to television! I was skeptical at first but when I did watch it I realized how much more there was to it. I want to know the rest.
YOU HAVE TO BRING THIS SHOW BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT A GREAT SERIES – THE BEST OF THE YEAR – PLEASE BRING IT BACK
The show is great… send it to cable..
Dear NBC, some people are busy when show they want to watch is on and have to watch it elsewhere after it has been originally broadcast. This is a great show, very dynamic and definitely not just about sex, even if it were, so what? The sex scenes? U don’t even barely see so much as side cleavage. Objectifying women? No, it portrays the time period and also women who CHOOSE these professions are actually the ones with the power, they can make anyone empty their wallet or purse right into their own. This show has crime drama, intrigue, commentary on… Read more »
I can’t believe this was cancelled. I love desperate housewives and go me this is a similar show that I could totally get into. Please someone pick up this show…..
I would be thrilled if bravo picked up The Playboy Club. I think the show is smartly written and daring too in that there is a gay thread running thru the show, and I really enjoyed the portrayal of the Mattachine Society. A little slice of gay history in a realistic setting where one can get the feeling of what it would have been like in the early ’60’s to attend one of those meetings. I love the twists and turns. One never knows what is going to happen next. Please Bravo, pick up this smart show. I want to… Read more »
I love the show, please let a cable network pick it up. This show would be awesome on
hbo or cinamax where they could show a little skin and heat up the action a bit more.
Oh man, please bring it back!! Or at Least, send it to another network, so we can finish the season!
YOU HAVE LEFT US HANGING!
I loved the show and hope Bravo picks it up. I also think violence is to much condoned and sexuality is like sweep it under the rug when it is a part of life. They have some wonderful actors and actresses that are doing an excellent job. I hope it is given another chance on another network.
Bring it back!!!
There was nothing wrong with The Playboy Club that couldn’t have been fixed by smart committed management. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about NBC, a network whose thinking actually is fifty years behind the times.
ABSOLUTELY. How could they possibly say that they gave this a chance??? Kudos to BRAVO if they pick up The Playboy Club. I welcome that since NBC didn’t even give it a fair shot. Thank you for letting me vent.
This was one of the best shows this year. It was thoroughly entertaining. Not only did it reflect a slice of American history, but it intertwines crime, drama, and romance for a great ride.
Please move this show to a cable channel. It very much deserves a whole season of viewing.
