After The Playboy Club was cancelled by NBC, Playboy’s Hugh Hefner wrote, “It should have been on cable, aimed at a more adult audience.” Chad Hodge, the TV series’ creator and executive producer, agrees and hopes that the show will find new life there. Hodge is a Chicago native who previously worked on shows like Tru Calling and created CW’s Runaway.
He recently told Out, “I think NBC gave up too soon… Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected — it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”
Hodge is hopeful however that another NBC channel might still rescue Playboy Club. He said, “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo — a quarter of our NBC audience — it would be a runaway hit.”
The show creator believes that Americans are too conservative about sex, but too liberal when it comes to violence. He noted, “What happened? Remember Basic Instinct? Fatal Attraction? The Red Shoe Diaries? We’ve become such prudes… Sexuality is part of life. I’d be more worried about my kid seeing horrific violence than I would about them seeing network-approved make-out sessions.”
What do you think? Is Bravo a better fit for Playboy Club? Would you watch it there?

Please move it! My college roomate and I are addicted!
I would love to see the Playboy Club air on Bravo. Honestly, I wasnt interested in it when it first started but once I watched the episodes at a later date, I was swept in. It had a very good story line…there are much worse shows on television these days. I’m dying to see episode #4!
Yes. I would watch it
I LOVED THIS!!
Please pick it up!!
I hated how NBC, did not even give it a chance!
Sure it was about sex, but not all about it. It was about Murder, Sex, Secrets and it was just getting interesting. My family and I all love this!
The Playboy Club is better than Pan-Am its keeping me hooked with the Action and Mystery i think the show should not be cancelled the Monday Line Up has gotten better because of this new show it sounds not as a story but a tell-all and aiming about real life women who are not just playboy fantasies but also real life women with different dreams and i do think the show should be picked up by BRAVO Cable has a more diverse Audience and if it is not fit enough to be picked up by NBC then move to its… Read more »
Yes, I will watch it on Bravo. There’s no good reason for it to be gone. Move it to a different timeslot on NBC or put it on Bravo. The show was obviously on too late, based on the high number of DVR recordings per each episode. Is NBC really this stumped??
I would love to see Bravo pick up the Playboy Club. Count me in as a consistent viewer. I loved the sophistication and the sexiness of the show.
PLEASE!!! somebody pick up this show! It is a great show, and I was so upset it got cancelled. I love the Chicago thrill. Everything Hodge said in this article is dead on, please continue the show!!
I hope this show is picked up by any station. My daughters and I are absolutely hooked. PLEASE, PLEASE RETURN TO PRODUCTION!!!!!
I loved the show. It showed women in a positive light. How under unfortunate circumstances they pulled up their boot straps and persevered.
Great Music, Mob vs gvmnt great looking strong wemen What more can we ask for?
Yes please take it to Bravo!! or anywhere else that will put it on the air.
I would definitely watch it on Bravo. Hope someone from the network is checking this.
Nope, please don’t move it to Bravo.
Yes Bravo should pick it up! Its a good show and I agree americans at a whole are prudes about sex, but love their violence! I think cable is a better choice! I will watch it on the web or itunes! I am sick of reality shows. Different is good not the same old thing!
Even though the show is/was horribly written, acted and directed, none of those things are necessarily a bad thing – people could’ve tuned in just to mock its ineptitude and contrived story lines – a ‘so bad it’s good’ sort of thing. However, it was also terminally boring – a real snoozefest. That’s why not many people bothered to watch it, not because of the PTC’s influence. Boredom is a much bigger deterrent than moral indignation!
Please someone pick up The PlayBoy Club, I loved it. I could never get to watch it @ 10pm, as I was always asleep, so I would go and watch it on Primetime On Demand later in the week. The way it has been potrayed in the press is way off base. What happened to parents, parenting and vetoing what their children watch. As for the demeaning of women, it’s not like you had to drag women off the street to be bunnies. They chose to be bunny girls and a lot of them were proud of their job. Strange… Read more »
