Perhaps NBC wishes they could time travel right about now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has been denied dismissal over a lawsuit regarding the TV series Timeless.
The action-adventure drama follows a history professor, a soldier, and a scientist as they travel through time to stop a mysterious criminal. The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, and Paterson Joseph.
In September, Onza Entertainment sued NBC, claiming Timeless “was “ripped off” from Spanish drama El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Department of Time). Later, NBC and production company Sony fired back, saying the time-travel genre lends itself to overlap:
Time travel is a well-established genre in all forms of media. Moreover, in many examples of the genre, the generic story line involves characters whose time travel alters the course of history, often preventing bad things from happening.”
Now, a California federal judge has denied NBC and Sony’s motion to end the lawsuit. What this means for the future of Timeless is unclear. The show’s freshman season has performed okay in the ratings so far, earning an average rating of 1.12 in the 18-49 demo and 4.707 million viewers. But will the pending lawsuit ensure the show’s cancellation? NBC has not yet announced whether or not the series will be renewed.
The season finale of Timeless airs on February 20th.
What do you think? Do you watch Timeless? Do you want a second season?
this show should absolutely be renewed.we love it. it’s fun and educational at the same time. i think it would benefit from an earlier time slot and/or a different night if necessary for families to enjoy this together.
We really enjoy this show and look forward to its return. I will be highly disappointed if it is cancelled..
Yes, and yes! Love the show, and all characters.
My husband and I are both historians and LOVE Timeless. We WANT a second season!!!
My brother and I both follow this show faithfully. The sci-fi elements and historical characters intertwined to the story line is riveting. I certainly hope the series continues.
Timeless is the greatest show on television right now. We the fans need another season. This shows deserves to be renewed! One season isn’t enough!
I think about this show for days after and research things I learned from the show. Who of us knew the lone Ranger was actually a black Marshall. Please network, bring this show back for a season 2
We love this show. Apparently others are hooked on it too with the ratings being respectable. As a teacher and an owner of a testing laboratory, my husband and I find this show historically educational, creative, and just great entertainment for us as well as the kids. Why is it every time a good show comes along, the network pulls it too quickly and doesn’t give the audience a chance to grow? Example:Cheers had horrible ratings and so did Seinfeld. But thank goodness someone took a chance and renewed it. The lawsuit sounds like another ridiculous attempt to tie up… Read more »
NBC Please renew TIMELESS
This show has become better and better with each episode. Great character development, excellent writing, plot development, and direction. I’ve also learned quite a bit about historical events that I previously did not know enough about. NBC, please don’t cancel the show. You can fight the legal battle. Time is on your side. (get it? time is on your side. haha)
Love the show. Such great strong and multidimensional female, African American and multi cultural characters. Would be a waste to drop versus nurture and continue to explore and learn about history.
Timeless is the ONLY show I’ve been excited about this Fall!!! Please fight the suit and renew for season 2!!!!
I love this show and it was not copied from another these shows have been around so NBC do NOT CANCEL TIMELESS PLEASE WE ALL LOVE THIS SHOW, REMEMBER PEOPLE TAPE IT OR WATCH IT ON DEMAND WHICH DOES NOT GET CREDIT IN THE RATINGS POOH POOH.
I am very disappointed in the California federal judge’s decision. It is very unfair. The story of time travel has been around for a very long time, long before H. G. Wells’ 1895 novel The Time Machine. It’s ridiculous to allow the law suit to continue. And, isn’t ABC coming out with a time travel show very soon called Time After Time? Even though it is based on the movie of the same name, it stands to reason that if a law suit is not brought against ABC, then NBC should not be sued either. Ridiculous! I love Timeless –… Read more »
There must be a second season. If NBC can’t recognize brilliance and unlimited potential of Timelss their executives should not be renewed.
