Toast has not yet been picked up by ABC as a new series, but Jerrika Hinton has been talking a lot about the pilot recently. She currently stars on Grey’s Anatomy, and her character played a major role on the drama during the last episode. In a recent interview, she revealed that her role on Toast would not cause her to exit the ABC medical drama.
She spoke about reuniting with her former Grey’s Anatomy co-star for Toast, and it sounds like she is happy about working with Tessa Ferrer again. She said the following to The Hollywood Reporter:
“According to the fans, Stephanie and Leah live together and are possibly dating. I’m down for that and I love that idea! I will allow that to be canon! (Laughing.) I’m so deeply into that idea!”
Hinton realizes that working on both shows at the same time will be a challenge, but she has some ideas about how she could make it all work. She said the following:
“My perfect scenario that I’ve imagined — and we haven’t talked about it yet since we don’t know if Toast is going — but multicamera comedies are on a completely different schedule than dramas and you have a bit more time. I’m a person who likes to work hard, creativity and to be able to live in two completely different worlds and flex two sets of completely different muscles. That sounds like a dream to me, even though it’s a very tiring dream and I’d be exhausted at the end of the season, I’m eager to try.”
Fans still worried about seeing Stephanie exit the series at the end of the season 12 finale should definitely relax. Hinton spoke a bit about the finale, and it does not set up an exit for her character.
“The finale shines the light on some other storylines, leaving Stephanie’s emotional journey unresolved. There is a world where Stephanie still has a lot of things to process next season so it’s not about setting up a departure by any means. We have a lot of other questions on the table before Stephanie and Kyle became a thing and our finale deals with those.”
Other members of the cast already teased a disaster for the finale. Do you want to see Jerrika Hinton flex her comedic muscles for Toast? Will you watch the series if ABC moves forward with it? Tell us what you think.
