Tommy won’t be back on patrol next season. CBS just announced that the network has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering a second season for the 2020-21 broadcast season.
The Tommy series revolves around a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Abigail “Tommy” Thomas (Edie Falco) uses unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political, and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. The CBS drama also stars Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Thomas Sadoski, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Joseph Lyle Taylor, and Vladimir Caamaño.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Tommy averages a 0.49 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise as the drama is the network’s lowest-rated scripted series.
The 12th and final installment of Tommy airs tomorrow night.

Typical CBS. Take a good show and cancel because it doesn’t fit it a “ box”. Seriously?! Great acting with relatable characters gets cancelled while leaving the stupid canned shows. Bring Tommy back!
Bring it back it wasn’t given a chance
I PVR’d Tommy and am now binge watching during covid isolation. I’m shocked it’s cancelled! It is an excellent show! It a challenge to find great TV these days. Tommy is great TV. The network stated low ratings, however, like me I’m sure alot of people PVR/DVR the series. Does the network factor this into their stats. Very disappointed this series is cancelled and hope the network changes their mind!
Why can’t your network give a new show time to grow. 10 shows and if it doesn’t make you greedy networks tons of money it’s axed. It’s not about great entertainment and action drama like on Tommy no all you executives worry about is instant hits and money. Why not work with a great new show like Tommy and give it time to grow and become a fantastic drama. What happened to the great days when a series did 24 episodes per year? We really were shocked to see Tommy not renewed. We loved the show and I’m sure you make mistakes in your cancelling decisions, we just hope you realize this and bring a Tommy back!

Totally agree! An intelligent show. You have to wonder about CBS ; they cancel Tommy but keep dumbass MacGyver & Magnum.
I am so sad to see this show canceled. The writing was excellent. The twists and turns of the story line kept me hooked! I really liked the final show of the season . I would love to see another season with the corruption explored with the Mayor and his fired sidekick.
So sad and disappointed that the series Tommy has been cancelled.My spouse and I enjoyed it very much! Now that Tommy’s character– as well as the rest–been established the future stories should be fantastic!!! Why was it canceled? Didn’t like a white lesbian with a black daughter running the LAPD??? I’ve seen lists of cancelled programming, most had been on many years and it was time, but cancelling Tommy in its 1st season is a mistake. I would hope ratings wasn’t the deciding factor since we’re in the midst of a pandemic. I myself find it hard to focus, but not with this show. Whatever procedure used to cancel might not be correct all things considered in our current situation. Please bring it back and give it the chance it deserves!.
I missed first episode as there was something else I was doing at the time. Since missing first episode I didn’t get it recorded to watch later but just finished a binge watch of all 12 episodes. WOW! It was an amazing show very well acted and strong characters. I was saddened to hear it had been cancelled, we never will know what happened with the justice department investigation into the mayor now. I had always figured he was a snaked!! Please reconsider I don’t watch reality tv and Survivor is a disgusting show.

Tommy is an excellent show and the character is a great role model for young women.It shows the continuing struggle of a strong woman who achieves a high ranking status, who not only fights against crime, but must also fight against those in power who challenge her and try to bring her down. I wish you would reconsider and renew for a second season. This is so much better than some of the dumbed down programs that are currently airing.
