Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I Love Trauma !!!! It is the BEST NEW show of the year. I have been waiting for it to come back from the holidays. So, I log on to find out when it will be returning, only to find out it has been cancelled. What is up with NBC lately? NBC seems to making poor judgement calls, i.e.,the Late Night Shows. Conan should have been able to keep his job.
Anyway, BRIND BACK TRAUMA !!!
It never fails… we find a show we really love and it gets cancelled! It’s odd, we’ve never been polled. Not sure who makes such idiotic decisions. Trauma had an awesome cast with great chemistry! We always looked forward to watching it. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
This was a GREAT show!! Please bring it back…
Was very disappointed to hear Trauma had been cancelled. Since ER ended I had been looking for a show that would somewhat replace my favourite hospital drama. Compared to Mercy, Trauma topped the cake! Too bad. Acting was good and I liked the high action episodes and the characters were intriguing.
They should have kept it on air, pretty good show.
Is not the first time that nbc do this!!! Im geting the filing that i dont want to keep wathing this chanel any more!!!
im very angry that NBC canceled Truama it was one of the best show BRING IT BACK!!!!!
I am truly disappointed that Trauma got cancelled. I agree with the others, the reality shows rot. This was a grabber. I enjoyed every minute and every storyline. When will we get to decide, since we’re the audience, right?
Demonios!! Si la serie era fenomenal, no me canso de decir Come Back Trauma!
I am so upset that this show Trama is gone I really liked it please bring it back
I am so disappointed “Trauma” has been canceled. I watch very little television – maybe five or six shows a week. I was impressed with “Trauma” on the first episode. It kept my attention throughout every minute of each show. I felt the acting of each character was great! I do not watch reality shows!!!! I could relate to this plot so easily. I am sorry NBC took this move – I really am!
this is one of the best show i seen in a long time then they take it off the air what wrong with you nbc bad management just like moving jay leno to 10 pm that took brains.
Mercy!!??? Mercy is a bad show! Come back Trauma Pleaseeeeeeeeee NBC!!!
My wife is a nurse and I am an emt. We both love Trauma and hate Mercy. Mercy is o far fetched, I honestly don’t think NBC gave it a chance. What are they going to air during the 5 days of empty 10 pm shifts?
My husband and Ireally enjoyed this show. The medicine was exaggerated a little but pretty close. I liked the story lines that were developing and enjoyed the fast pace. Mercy my husband won’t watch. The medicine is really way out there and the story is kind of flat.
