It looks like Unforgettable is joining Reckless on the casualty list this week. CBS has decided to cancel Unforgettable (for the second time) after three seasons on the air.
Unforgettable follows Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a police detective who has hyperthymesia — a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to visually remember everything. Unfortunately, the one thing she can’t remember is what happened on the day her sister was killed. The show’s cast also includes Dallas Roberts, Dylan Walsh, Tawny Cypress, James Hiroyuki Liao, and Jane Curtin.
The series debuted on CBS in the fall of 2011 and the first season averaged a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.3 million viewers. That wasn’t good enough for the network and they cancelled it in May 2012.
Sony Pictures TV (which co-produces with CBS TV Studios) shopped the series to other outlets like TNT and Lifetime. Ultimately, CBS ended up reversing their cancellation to pick it up for a second season of 13 episodes for a Summer 2013 run. They later renewed it for season three and another summer run.
There’s no denying that the numbers have been inching downward. The second season averaged a 1.0 rating with 7.06 million and the third, which wrapped a month ago, averaged a 0.9 rating with 6.09 million.
Talks had reportedly been underway for a fourth season order but, for whatever reason, that’s not happening on CBS.
There are currently 48 episodes of Unforgettable — not enough for a syndication package. However, Sony TV has a history of finding a way to keep shows alive. Though there’s been no word of efforts to find another home for the show yet, the studio has incentive to get more episodes produced for a syndication package.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Unforgettable has been cancelled again? Would you watch a fourth season on another channel?
I loved the show. I feel badly aboiut it being cancelled. So sad.
Absolutely love that show
We would definitely like a season 4
Becoming unlikely. Even Dylan Walsh just took a guest-shot on another series. It is too bad.
I would absolutely watch “Unforgettable” on another channel; any channel, just tell me when and where!
im so sad they cancelled is…. i love the show!!!!!
my husband and I very much enjoyed unforgettable. We would definately watch it if it came back on.there is not many good shows on ,but unforgettable was a good one
My husband and I loved Unforgettable. Please bring it back!
Not looking too good. So far, no network interest.
i would watch a fourth season, i dont like how it ended in the third season.
The producers were probably optimistic that CBS would keep a season 4, given that the ratings had risen. But it was not to be. So far, no network is interested.
one of the few great tv shows and it just cannot be cancelled!!!
It is just a shame that the networks take off the shows that share a storyline. Then, they throw shows up like Honey Boo Boo and Hoarding for idiots to watch. Keep putting up garbage and you won’t have to worry about ratings, because every normal person will choose some other form of viewing. Please keep Unforgettable on the air.
I am very distressed. I love this show and my family would definitely watch on another network .
If only we could find a network we all could watch it on. Looking less and less likely.
You darn right I’ll watch it on another channel! I swear networks are SO stupid, the way they bury these great shows with shuffling and whatnot!
You will watch it on another channel–if another channel is willing to pick it up. And that is becoming less likely. Sony has tried hard to get another network interested, but so far nothing. It is an issue of production costs and advertising revenue, and networks are more and more careful.
I LOVE the series. I am sad that CBS has decided to cancel this excellent show.
The series is being “shopped out,” with hopes another network will pick up. But not looking encouraging.
It’s one of the few TV shows I watch. Don’t cancel it.
Yes I want the forth season they can’t leave us like this we need to know what will happens you can put it on iTune or you find a Chanel I am sure they will accept
No, it’s not that easy. Not by a long shot. We are talking about a tv series that probably costs a network about $3M per episode. And I am being conservative. Not exactly ITunes. They are trying to get a network to pickup, but so far no luck.
Why???? I was so looking forward to a new season 🙁
The series’ owner, Sony Pictures TV, has tried hard to find another network to broadcast the series, but so far to no avail. This is a very competitive market, and the financial commitment is big. The problem (now) is that networks are “firming up” their summer schedule. It may be too late (but there is always hope). An additional problem is that (I am sure) Poppy, Dylan, and the rest of the actors are looking for new acting assignments. If they are offered a new role, and take the role, that may be in conflict with “U” getting revived (because… Read more »
I am quite sad they took the show off. It was a great cast chemistry. It is up there in my top 5 shows. I actually don’t like most shows. With such a large reality TV presence. We have lost slots of shows with plots and story lines. I would love to see more. Even if it was just a mini series to bring closure to her past. The whole angle that is worked from her past resolved.
