Last season, despite following CBS’ top-rated sitcom on Thursday nights, United States of Al was just a middle-of-the-road performer for the network. It was renewed for a second season but, if the numbers don’t improve this year, will it be so lucky? Will United States of Al be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A comedy series, the United States of Al TV show stars Adhir Kalyan, Parker Young, Elizabeth Alderfer, Dean Norris, Kelli Goss, and Farrah Mackenzie with Brian Thomas Smith, Rachel Bay Jones, and Azita Ghanizada recurring. The story revolves around the friendship between two men who’ve been through war together. Riley (Young) is a Marine combat veteran who is struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio. Awalmir aka “Al” (Kalyan) is the Interpreter who served with Riley’s unit in Afghanistan. After a long struggle to get him a visa to travel to the United States, Riley welcomes Al as he arrives to start a new life. They are supported by Art (Norris), Riley’s veteran father; Riley’s sister, Lizzie (Alderfer); Vanessa (Goss), Riley’s ex-wife; and Hazel (Mackenzie), Riley and Vanessa’s daughter.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
5/20 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season one of United States of Al on CBS averaged a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.67 million viewers in the live+same day ratings.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but the higher-rated series are typically renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the United States of Al TV series on CBS? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
*5/12/22 update: United States of Al has been cancelled by CBS.
I love this show, the characters & actors are great, it’s funny and I can’t wait for Thursday night for it to come on, I DVR it so I can rewatch it again. Please don’t cancel it, you already took off shows I really liked.
Love this show! Best show I’ve seen in a long time. All the characters are likeable and interact well together. Please let there be a third season!!
Uh I’m sorry to report to you that it’s been cancelled today.
Not a good show. Their latest episode, aired 04/16, shows a character eating drug-infused candy, sneaking over the border; and one of the main characters cheating. Who is this show actually targeting? I hope it get canceled.
Love this show!!!
Really like this show but the schedulers have been jerking it off and on, trying to promote their favorites instead. For example, the show “Ghosts” has moved into its place a couple of times even though it really sucks. Bring back Al where he belongs, please.
AL is a fish out of water here trying to adjust to and absorb American customs. In the first season this set up some amusing interplay. But underneath the humor the show has a huge heart: Riley and Al bonded while in combat and their love is played genuinely. It is male bonding we watch as they help each other. Riley got Al out of Afghanistan and brought him to America. Then the family sees Al through difficult periods contacting his family back home or getting them and to the US (in an episode timed to then current headlines.) This… Read more »
Ok, just not a fan. Cancel yesterday.
Some say war is not funny and this show is disrespectful to our vets. How sad, to have an angry view. Remember the comedy MASH? Funny and informative of what both the civilians & the soldiers of Korean war faced all on air while US involved in Vietnam at same time this was airing.
Love this show, characters and their lives, are both informative of what refugees face in war torn countries where the US had a big presence & what they encounter upon arriving here. Insight into problems faced by US returning service personnel from war is also key to my love of this show. Don’t forget, its also funny as well as poignant. KEEP IT. I MISS IT.
I enjoy the show. I hope it’s renewed
Bring it back.
I can’t see a renewal of the series. It’s awful not just the subject matter or genre but overall radians are just really poor. You can tell the quality of the Scripps are really poor not really bought out and more light on laugh tracks and just subject matter of the actors. It’s not a very well-made TV series.
Really don’t like the subject of this show which mixes serious war issues with Humor which is not a good mix. VERY disrespectful to the Military soldiers in Afghan, this is NOT a funny issue that Al represents Translators.
Came to watch a comedy show and I get a drama show eh! If it continues like this I’m done with it.
Fantastic show! CBS you need to put this episode of trying to get Al’s sister to safety up for an award.
Really bad mix of war issues and humor. war is not funny!
