Riley and Al won’t be back for the 2022-23 television season. CBS has cancelled the United States of Al show after two seasons and 33 episodes. The last episode airs May 19th.
A comedy series produced by Chuck Lorre, the United States of Al TV show stars Adhir Kalyan, Parker Young, Elizabeth Alderfer, Dean Norris, Kelli Goss, and Farrah Mackenzie with Brian Thomas Smith, Rachel Bay Jones, and Azita Ghanizada recurring. The story revolves around the friendship between two men who’ve been through war together. Riley (Young) is a Marine combat veteran who is struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio. Awalmir aka “Al” (Kalyan) is the Interpreter who served with Riley’s unit in Afghanistan. After a long struggle to get him a visa to travel to the United States, Riley welcomes Al as he arrives to start a new life. They are supported by Art (Norris), Riley’s veteran father; Riley’s sister, Lizzie (Alderfer); Vanessa (Goss), Riley’s ex-wife; and Hazel (Mackenzie), Riley and Vanessa’s daughter.
The second season of United States of Al averages a 0.47 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers in the live+same day ratings. Compared to season one, that’s down by 6% in the demo and up by 6% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). In the traditional ratings, it was a middle-of-the-pack performer when compared to other scripted series on CBS. In the live+7 day ratings, the series averages a 0.57 demo with 5.82 million, picking up just 22% and 18% more viewers in the delayed viewing.
According to Deadline, the cast and crew were informed of the cancellation tonight. B-Positive, another comedy from Lorre, drew similar ratings and appears to have a good chance of being renewed now that Al has been cancelled. Rumor is that the network was planning to only renew one of the two comedies.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed the United States of Al comedy series? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled and won’t be back for a third season on CBS?
NOOOO!!!! The US of AL was a GREAT show!! Pleeeease renew!! Also Magnum, B+ Your own stats show Magnum as a top performer!! C’mon CBS!!! Wake UP!!!
People complaining about laugh tracks. And now people think this shows good? I think people are too fickle either sucks for people laugh tracks because the show is terrible nobody really knows but frankly speaking the show was meant to be canceled.
United States of AL is right up there with Bob loves Abashola. Both make my evening. They both make me laugh and we need that. Please renew the show CBS instead of another violent drama.
The scary part about this job being canceled is does Lori have any more shows that he’s going to produce for the incoming season? Or is he going to be dominated like he did last season. The show should’ve been canceled from year one. But we don’t need any more Chuck Lorre crappy sitcoms we need new creative juices flowing with network TV other than that the show was just garbage.
This show did not have enough time to really prove that it was a good comedy, and we need to have more fun comedy shows nowadays, than all of the crime dramas, that for some unknown reason get good ratings.
You really need to keep United States of AL on, if you take any show off the air take off ghost. That is the most horrible show on TV this show should be removed. Please renew United States of AL it is a great sitcom and I love it. Like the last person that made a comment you’re making a big mistake by taking it off the air please renew it.
Worst decision ever this was the best sitcom on TV. I’m so tired of cbs canceling all the good shows and keeping the awful ones on like the neighborhood that should have been canceled after the first season but it’s still going and hey it got renewed again why not. They have know idea what their doing over there.
I am very sad that they decided to cancel United States of AL, that was a very good show and people really knew what the war in Afghanistan really going on out there with trying to make it into a comedy. It’s so sad that you’re taking it off the air I think that’s a bad mistake.
How could you cancel this show? I loved it and all the characters were very real. I loved the relationship of Riley and Al and how the war brought them together and they bonded and were friends. It gave a great perspective of the military and the bravery of the folks helping them, a human quality, not just a story of a wore torn country. Riley worked hard to get Al back here and it meant a lot to me. Please, a Chuck Lorre show with heart and meaning! Please, please, please reconsider!!
Am really sorry to hear they’re canceling this one. I guess I will be watching something other than CBS during this time slot.
Going to miss this show. Was really meaningful! Love the characters. Please find another spot for it.
I will miss US of Al very much, but I’m not surprised about the cancellation, not because of the writing or acting, but because cross cultural comedies aren’t generally received well.
It was OK but nothing special, so not too surprised.
So what is cbs going to put in the place of this good show, some more lying news shows that want people to listen to their opinion and not have our own
