We recently reported that ABC had decided to hold the second season premiere of V until January 4, 2011. It had looked like the network would bring it back in November but fans of the series will have to wait until next year, nearly seven months since the last original episode.
Now comes word that the network is cutting the episode order from 13 to 10 installments. Season two of V will air on Tuesdays at 9pm, taking the place of the Dancing with the Stars result show. It’s lead-in will be the compatible No Ordinary Family.
If V had returned in November, ABC would have needed at least 13 episodes to fill the timeslot until the next cycle of DWTS begins on March 29th. Because it won’t be returning until January 4th, and there are only 12 Tuesdays until March 30th, ABC doesn’t need as many episodes. The network is reportedly already planning a pair of preemptions.
The cast and crew are still filming so the scripts will be adapted to bring the season to a close after 10 episodes.
How does this bode for V’s prospects of a third season? Not very well but then, the show has always had an uphill battle ahead of it.
V was barely renewed last May because of low ratings and last season’s finale brought in just a 2.1 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic. It’s a science-fiction serial drama with lots of ongoing storylines so V is unfortunately not very conducive to new viewers to start watching. Even if everyone who watched the season finale returns to watch season two, V will be one of the lowest rated shows on the network. If it were on the schedule right now, it would only be beating The Whole Truth, a ratings disaster.
What do you think? Do you think the series will last long enough to see a third season or is it sure to be cancelled? What would you do to get the TV show some new viewers? Is it possible?

I am a huge fan of the V show, I was very sadden to hear about the delay in the next seasons permiere. Come on ABC give it a chance.
I loved the original V. I has happy to see it make a comeback. The show seemed like it had potential. I was really disappointed by how they handled it. It was on for a couple weeks…then off for a few….then next thing you know it’s over for a few months. That was not a good way to keep people interested. I started to lose interest because the show was so irregular….and I liked watching it. It doesn’t surprise me that they aren’t taking this series seriously. TV is overrun with reality shows and it seems that that is all… Read more »
I want it to last. I am mad and pissed at ABC for not giving it proper exposure this past season! How do they expect it to do well if they can’t be supported? ABC is making a huge mistake cutting V back and only showing it in the Spring. The show would get more viewers if it started in the Fall or was non stop from Jan to May.
Caprica just got cancelled under the same circumstances, viewer drop off after long hiatus, looks like the same fate awaits V. The two best science fiction shows of late both screwed over by inept decision making from their studios/creators etc. Just pointless.
“V” is an excellent science-fiction show. A great way to lose viewers is to do just exactly what you’re doing; hold back the season and start it late. Then, make all of the loyal fans feel rotten by assuring them that there won’t be a third season. Give it to the SyFy channel which has had really some really lousy shows on except maybe for the new Stargate series, which has some excellent potential. It’s so rare to get good, real science-fiction. “V” seems to have good writers and good actors. I’ve been looking forward to it since the end… Read more »
I loved the original when I was a kid and want this version of V to work. So far it’s been good but I think they need to pick up the pace. Lets see some of the visitors peeling off their human face, lets see some guinea pig eating, more action and OMG moments! I still remember how freaked out I was when Diana’s mouth stretched open and she ate that guinea pig in the original… that’s what I want more of.
Like the show here, from Ireland… living in Dublin… and yes in case you’re wondering, just had a glass of wine. Sounds like this is heading for cancellation. It’s unfortunate really – it’s a great show. Slow moving, but good. Could have been a huge show, but ABC made some very strange managerial decisions here. On again, off again… ‘hey where the heck is ‘V’ gone????’ It needed better marketing, faster moving plot… I mean a whole season of Anna squaring off against Tyler’s Mom is a bit ott… I get the impression ABC assumed it would be a huge… Read more »
pleeeease keep V on the air, ABC! it’s one of the very few shows i watch…..
I”m in my early 50’s and really like the show and its cast. I really would hate to see this show canceled. Don’t do like NBC did to Kings that was a excellent show for those of us with the mentality to handle it.
V is a good show that just needs more time to develop a dedicated following. The current iteration of the concept is much better than the original and there is room for much more growth in the storylines. Additionally, the characters on this show are intriguing. I’m sure that giving V the proper day, time slot and advertisement will lead to it garnering greater market share.
The reason the ratings are so low is because they keep having shows on for 3 weeks then off for 10 just to be on for another 2. These networks need to get it together because all the good shows are getting canceled for stupid reality shows.
Hay ABC whats wrong with you guys! It’s a damm good series. If you can’t let the series run …give to the sci -fi channel and let them have a go at it!
Come on ABC! I have personally recruited and recommended V to/for viewers. This is so much better than the original V, and I watched every episode of that one. Get the lead out, and renew these guys. I am just barely in your 17 – 49 demographic (high end). I spend big bucks for sci-fi conventions, and support these franchises. Don’t make me leave your network… dancing with the stars is getting boring.
OK ABC adVertise V FOR GOD SAKE WE GOT DIANA
YOU GOT SOME REEALLY PISSED OF VIEWERS AN READ THE FAN BASE ON JOHN MAY LIVES ON FACEBOOK WE LOVE WHAT YOU”V DONE WITH THE NEW V ADD MORE TO V WE WANT A SEASON 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ABC sucks, every drama they bring out, with the exception of Lost, I get drawn in, only to get cancelled. The Unusuals, Flashforward, and soon V. ABC is dead to me.
