During a Wondercon 2016 roundtable for the second season of the Wayward Pines TV series on FOX, M. Night Shyamalan pretty much pre-cancelled the mystery thriller after its third season, which is still hypothetical. FOX renewed Wayward Pines for a second season, back in December. Still, SlashFilm reports the EP sees the series ending with season three.
In addition to Jason Patric, the Wayward Pines season two cast includes: Djimon Hounsou, Nimrat Kaur, Kacey Rohl, Josh Helman, Hope Davis, and Tom Stevens. In addition to Davis and Helman, cast members from the first season appearing in the second season of Wayward Pines includes: Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Tim Griffin, Charlie Tahan, Melissa Leo, and Terrence Howard.
Based on the Blake Crouch book series, the 10-episode, second season of Wayward Pines will pick where the first season left off. Residents will resist the rule of the First Generation. Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) – new to town – awakens to find himself in the midst of the rebellion. Dr. Yedlin struggles to understand what Wayward Pines really is and tries to save the human race.
Here is more excerpted from SlashFilm, on Shyamalan’s statements.
“I think we can say it’s a three-season story,” Shyamalan said. “If we get the opportunity to tell the third and final season, we can finish the story.”
Season one starred Matt Dillon as an FBI agent who found himself in the town of Wayward Pines, and the town would not let him leave. After the reveal of the first season, season two will — not to spoil too much — address and develop what viewers saw. Fans discovered the Abbies outside the fence of Wayward Pines, and they will play a bigger part in season two.
“We are outside the fence a little bit,” Shyamalan said. “This season, we learn about the Abbies so that’s the big [reveal.] I think we could say the second season is about the Abbies. It seems at the end of the first season, you have a kind of primitive understanding of what that is, what an Abby is, but that’s actually not what an Abby is.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Wayward Pines TV show? Do you plan to watch the second season? Do you think Wayward Pines should be cancelled after its third season, or should it be renewed for a fourth?

Pleeeeze do not end Wayward Pines. I live in the Mediterranean and have to stay up all hours to watch it. I wish it would go on and on…it is fantastic and one of the better series for those of us who like science fiction. I have watched series one and two twice over and am now panicking to find out what happens. I even have a story line in my own head that is so good I would love to contact Fox and tell them about it. (Dreaming) I miss it soooo much…
I love Wayward Pines it’s a great show. I have watched ever episode since Season 1. I love the futuristic aspect of what humanity might be like in 2000 years. I hope the producer and Fox renew the show for a third season. Please renew from a devoted fan!!

Matt Dillon was Wayward Pines. I cannot imagine watching a show without him hin it.
Truly one of the most AMAZING series we have ever seen on Fox!!! We have loved every movie M. Night Shyamalan has ever been involved with, & the cast of Wayward Pines is “brilliant”. We feel it should go more than 3 seasons! We will watch every single episode for as long as it is aired! So thrilled to see it come back! Thanks for a great series, we are huge fans! :0)
