One new sitcom is no longer in the NBC family. The peacock network has canned Welcome to the Family after three low-rated episodes.
On Welcome to the Family, a pair of very different families are brought together when their teens get “in a family way.” The sitcom’s cast includes Mike O’Malley, Mary McCormack, Ricardo Chavira, Justina Machado, Ella Rae Peck, Joseph Haro, and Fabrizio Guido.
The comedy started out with very low ratings and the numbers got worse in week two. They seem to have shown a little growth last night but the ratings were still terrible. As a result, NBC has swung the axe.
It’s unclear what will become of the unaired episodes or how many installments have actually been produced. NBC initially ordered 13 of them.
The peacock network will fill the timeslot with a mix of reruns and special holiday programming through the end of the year. Then, on January 2nd, Community will return with a pair of new episodes in the 8-9pm timeslot.
After that, episodes of Community will air at 8pm, followed by Parks and Recreation.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Welcome to the Family go? Did you like it? Are you looking forward to the return of Community?
Sooo Sad. I loved this show. NBC should just finish the season.
Big Mistake! NBC never gave it a chance. Not looking forward to Community!
I LOVE this show. Good acting. Funny.
Traded a rock for a hard place.
I really like Welcome to the Family. My whole family likes it. We watch it together and think its great. Funny, clever, characters we all liked, interesting dynamics- we were all mad to see the announcement that it was cancelled. I really want it to stay on the air!
Good riddance.
I really liked Welcome to the Family. That said, I’m super excited that Community will be back soon. Never watched Ironside.
Well…Community’s not going to help turns things around for NBC or serves as a good lead off for the night to increase viewership for the rest of the shows.
Dang it!! I really liked this one. I always find the mother/daughter pregnant story is always interesting and then they add the inlaw fighting. It was entertaining to me.. Despite the unoriginal story..
That’s really too bad. Mary’s first show after In plain sight, and it tanks. She’s a great actress, and deserves better. I hope her next show does better.
…and THAT one, too! Way to go, NBC. You made the first TWO cancellations of YOUR fall season!
