Westworld just premiered last night, but showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are already planning season two, Deadline reports.
Based on the 1973 film, the sci-fi drama is set in a futuristic theme park where visitors can enact their Wild West fantasies alongside life-like robots. The cast includes Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, and Jeffrey Wright.
Speaking to Deadline, Nolan said the series will see a robot backlash:
Are these robots alive? Are the programmers justified in their growing sympathy and alarm over the robots’ plight, or are they fooling themselves becoming entranced by their own handiwork?”
He added that future seasons may take an untraditional approach to storytelling:
The film’s story was virtually limitless and so is television at this moment with audiences enjoying shows that break out of their traditional story structures. We definitely look to fully exploit that aspect of storytelling in Westworld.”
What do you think? Did you see the premiere of Westworld? Will you watch the rest of season one?
