After a few years of rising numbers, last year, the Nielsen ratings for Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart TV show settled in and ended up just a bit down. Still, the Canadian-American TV series has a fiercely devoted audience who keeps returning, so Hallmark has even developed an upcoming spin-off, When Calls Hope. Will the season six ratings be negatively impacted by the departure of Daniel Lissing? Will When Calls the Heart be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A western family drama, When Calls the Heart stars Erin Krakow, Lori Loughlin, Jack Wagner, Martin Cummins, Pascale Hutton, and Kavan Smith. Inspired by the Janette Oke novel, the Hallmark TV series centers on Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow), a young teacher from a high society background. When she is assigned to teach in a coal country classroom, her life completely changes, particularly when she meets Royal North West Mounted Policie Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). Season six kicks off with the recently widowed Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton anticipating the arrival of Jack’s posthumous baby.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: Although Hallmark Channel separates the When Calls the Heart holiday special from the regular season, the two-hour movie which premieres on Christmas Day 2018 has a season six production number, so we include the movie’s ratings as part of season six.
For comparisons: The fifth season of When Calls the Heart on Hallmark averaged a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.325 million viewers.
What do you think? Do you like the When Calls the Heart TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for season seven on Hallmark Channel?
*3/18/19 update: The series has not been cancelled but, following Loughlin’s arrest, Hallmark pulled the remaining season six episodes. It seems that the intent is to rework the episodes (presumably to remove Loughlin) and air them at a later date. We’ll update you when we have a date.
*4/10/19 update: Season six of When Calls the Heart returns May 5, 2019.
*4/13/19 update: When Calls the Heart has been renewed for a seventh season by Hallmark.
I love this series! Please keep it on, it is one of the few shows that evoke a warm feeling of wholesomeness.
Love wind calls the heart. Miss Jack but will continue to watch. A good clean show to watch, need more shows like this. The show will always be good even without Jack.We will survive!! Lol
Love this show so much best thing on tv couldn’t imagine not being able to watch it please dont cancel it ever even my son (13) watches with me
I love it with or without Jack. Don’t cancel one of the few shows that I can let my grandchildren watch without free of something offensive.
I agree. “when calls the heart” brings to tv the American life style that we all would love to enjoy. In constrast, the “law & order”, “chicago fire, med, pd” all show (exploit) the America we would like to change.
I love When Calls the Heart. It should be on going. Best type of show since Little House on the Prairie.
I would continue watching if you hadn’t killed Jack.
The death of Jack caused the death of “When Calls The Heart”. The love story of Elizabeth and Jack was the heart of the show.
Agreed.
I refuse to watch the new season. It will not be the same without the mounty. Very disappointed. You have lost a loyal fan
I love the setting for When Calls The Heart. The various episode plots are wholesome and the character development keeps me connected to the show. I love sitting back and enjoying this Halmark presentation. I am hooked!
Please continue with the new season ! We love this show! My grandchildren and daughter watch it with me nd we eagerly anticipate the next season.
I would love to see When Calls the Heart stay. I’ll admit that I was angry when Jack was killed off. I would welcome a [reasonable] story line that could bring him back. However, I know that is unlikely and the show can recover from the loss of Jack’s character. My chief complaint about the show – and MANY other Hallmark Channel shows – is the time between seasons. I cannot give exact time frames, but to end a season in April and not have another season until December (8 month delay), and that season be nothing more than a… Read more »
i think it should be cancelled it will never be the same!
I have never missed an episode and will continue to watch every episode and I hope season 7 and more seasons will be approved! Also, not sure if the viewers are aware of this but based on an interview I read, “Jack” (Lissing) made the decision to leave the show early, not the other way around. I loved him in the show and will miss him but I do feel that the show is good enough to continue without him. I absolutely look forward to every episode!!!
I have watched from the begining please don’t cancel we need clean TV this break’s my heart.
Please don’t cancel this wonderful family friendly program. It would be such a shame to loose it especially since there are so few shows like it left on the air.
Great show.. will watch….
