TV show description:
A 16th century period drama, featuring a modern soundtrack, the Will TV show chronicles the life of young William Shakespeare (Davidson). The series opens as the Bard of Avon arrives on the London theater scene.
At just 24 years of age, with no social or political advantages, Shakespeare is willing to risk everything in pursuit of his dreams. He dives headlong into the fast and treacherous world of Elizabethan theater, trying to make it as a writer.
Will soon falls for Alice (DeJonge), the beautiful and brilliant — if recalcitrant — daughter of James Burbage (Meaney). An actor, producer, and carpenter, James built the first theater in London, since the days of Roman rule.
Although her father is an impresario, Alice is unable to pursue a dramatic career, because of the mores of the times. Still, she is drawn to Will and his ingenuity, but the stars never seem to align for these young lovers.
Alice’s talented brother Richard Burbage (Inwood) is quite impressed with himself, and tends to overact. However, when he joins forces with Will, they form a world famous actor-writer partnership.
Despite, or perhaps because of his brilliance, Christopher Marlowe (Bower) is cocky and prone to provoke people. A luminary of the theater scene, this young playwright loves to live life on the edge. Although Will is is drawn to him, Marlowe is not known for his loyalty.
As Queen Elizabeth’s persecutor of Catholics, Richard Topcliffe (Bremner) is a formidable man. He cloaks his penchant for sadism with piety, and is in hot pursuit of Father Robert Southwell (Bennett) — a Roman Catholic rebel, who is also Will’s cousin.
A acclaimed comedian, Kemp (Houston) is often temperamental and seldom sober. He and Will have a difficult professional relationship, in part, because Kemp finds scripts irritating.
The alluring Emilia Bassano (Brown) is the “Dark Lady” of Shakespeare’s sonnets and will go on to become the first female professional English poet. This talented musician and writer is the mistress of Lord Hunsdon (Michael Elwyn) and has the city at her feet.
It is in this enticing yet brutal world of brawling audiences, religious oppression, and rowdy sideshows that Shakespeare hones his incredible, enduring talent.
Series Finale:

What do you think? Do you like the Will TV series? Should TNT have cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I love the series. I am sorry to hear that there won’t be more. REally sorry.
No guns or laugh tracks—Of course the fourteen year old critics panned the show.
renew it
Should not have cancelled Will
Cannot believe they cancelled Will. Awesome series. Not happy!
Love this show! I just finished binge watching this show as I missed all the original air times. It is summer , not focused on tv til fall! Please continue the sereies even if its January 2019 for the next installment! I know your ratings will only improve!! Best series put out by you! Second favorite is Good Behavior and glad that was saved!!
RENEW IT! This show was great!
Honestly one of the best shows of the season. Why don’t networks give shows a chance rather than canceling after 10 episodes. The chemistry between Will and Alice was nothing short of amazing. Again, this series has certain historic value which is always a good thing. Perhaps another network can be smart enough to pick it up and advertise better while the fan base builds!!! Shows introduced during summer should automatically be renewed through fall!!
my husband and I just discovered this show – a friend recommended it to us – and we are halfway through and we LOVE it. I am crushed (and angry) to find out that it’s cancelled! this show was mesmerizing, with such a unique mix of modern and period aspects. The cast is excellent and the story captivating. I was totally enthralled. My husband and I are both in the 30-60 demographic, and the only reason we didn’t watch before was simply that we didn’t know about it.
I would be over the moon if they would bring it back!!
Amazing show. Please please bring it back for another season. Acting was terrific. Plot was amazing!! It was the way to get the younger generations to appreciate and connect with Shakespeare which is great considering they still have to study it in school. Again, please bring it back!!!!
I loved this show. I want to see what happens to Alice. Is she on her way to France to become a nun?
Me and my friends LOVE THIS Show! It’s incredible! Ratelyndues a series grab me the way this series did! Intelligent! Sexy! Visually mesmerizing! Nothing has captivated us like this than Breaking Bad! Why? This with another season would of been one of the greatest! Typical Television after quick money before it had a chance to develop and become one of the huge series. Bad move TNT! This was sine of the best I am my demographic of 30-60 loved!!!
I LOVED this show and am super bummed it will not return. I agree with other reviews that advertising was inadequate.
I’m sorry to see it go I found it interesting with the blend of old and new. It was an entertaining show with several sub plots
I’m absolutely gutted that they have cancelled this excellent series. It was so well done. Shame it wasn’t advertised more. I loved it so much and even got my husband to watch it once he realized they didn’t speak in Shakespeare tongue – so to speak. Wonderful show with awesome casting.
